Happy Thursday, babies! Uke n’ Smile is back at the Local Buzz for some open mic action this Thursday evening. All musicians of different skills and genres are invited to get up on the microphone tonight as this free and all-ages event begins right around 7:30pm.


Local musician Steve Jones and a few of his musically inclined friends will be playing some songs at The Liberal Cup this evening. Jones and company will be performing a blend of rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, roots and more starting at 7 o’clock.

Maine-based musician Sa Rah is back at the Easy Street Lounge for another Thursday evening of acoustic serenades. Grab some friends and get cozy as this free show starts up at 9 o’clock.


Tonight Portland based 10-piece indie pop act Monarck Lisa joins forces with local ska, punk and rock n’ roll band El Grande for a holiday party over at Studio F on Parris Street. The good times get rollin’ right around 7 o’ clock.

Alex Smith will be performing some country and blues numbers tonight during a free and all-ages show at Andy’s. Tonight’s shindig gets swinging at 7pm.

Singer-songwriter and folk musician Ellis Paul will be performing live at the One Longfellow Square this evening. Paul will be playing his well-known brand of folk-pop style songs after an opening set by singer-songwriter Jim Trick who’ll start things off at 8 o’clock.

Sublime tribute band Badfish returns to the stage of the State Theatre tonight where they’ll be joined by special guests and local funk-rockers Paranoid Social Club. The party starts right around 8 o’clock.

Portland siren Viva brings her vibrant vocals back to Sonny’s lounge tonight for another performance of jazz standards alongside her talented band The Reinforcements. This free shindig gets swinging at 8 o’clock.

Portland A/V geeks, Video Nasties are making their long-overdue full-length debut available on wax and its cause for celebration. The bad boys of post-apocalyptic psych-punk will be joined by friends and fellow Maine outsider-songsmiths, Caethua, Tom Kovacevic, and Colby Nathan. Get weird at SPACE Gallery as this 18+ show starts up at 8:30pm.

The dudes in Kilcollins will be doing it to it over at RiRa tonight. Starting at 9 the band plans on rockin’ you with all sorts of tunes that you know in love with a handful of catchy original jams for good measure. It’s free, fun and guaranteed to be a good time, so check it out if you’re downtown this evening.

Talented LA-transplant Zach Jones is home for the holidays and tonight he’ll be joined by members of Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Model Airplane, The Fogcutters, Sly-Chi, and Micromasse to bring the songs of the King of Pop to life on stage at Portland House of Music and Events. Forever Michael: A Tribute to Michael Jackson will feature songs from the iconic artists catalog as well as an opening set by local act Micromasse with Brian Graham. Tonight’s tribute gets underway at 9 o’clock.

The time has come for you to muster up your mightiest hairnado, lock up those devil horns, and prepare to bring the thunder as Capture The Sun, The Summoner and Cat Trash play Empire tonight. Get ready to have your face melted off and to be properly propelled into heavy metal and RnR stratospheres during this Thursday night throw down as things get heavy at 9:30pm.

The fellas in Hello Newman will be pumping out the jams tonight as they host a party upstairs at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port. Starting at 9:30, you can check out the band as they rock all of your favorite 90s tunes all night long!

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.
