Cuddle Magic and Jeff Beam perform at One Longfellow Square tonight

Happy Wednesday! We’re inching our way slowly, but surely to another fun-filled weekend, so might as well take some time out to celebrate this milestone by getting out there and raging to some tuneage this evening. Here are the haps all around town and beyond including shows such as Micromasse at Frontier, Rippleton Cross at Cole Farms, The Maine Dead Project at Portland House of Music and Events, YDMC & James Butcher, Trele The God, Lady Essence and Lyokha at Geno’s, Clara Junken at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and more! 


Organ-based trio Micromasse returns to Frontier tonight as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge Wednesday night music series. This free show will showcase the melodic and mesmerizing sounds of musicians Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas as the three combine guitar, drums and organ to create some superior instrumental jams starting right around 7:30pm.


Local folk-rock duo Rippleton Cross returns to Cole Farms this Wednesday evening to host another free and fun open mic event. The pair will be performing some tunes as well as encouraging other musicians to get up on the mic and have some fun. This all-ages gathering will get underway right around 7 o’clock tonight.


Another opportunity to unwind with some great acoustic roots tunes happens again over at Andy’s as David Beam and Friends return for another free, all ages show that’ll start up at 8pm.

Blue’s Irish Concert Series rolls on this Wednesday evening with a featured performance by Don Wessels and Tom Wilsbach. Music starts at 7:30 and will be followed by a midweek Irish Session that is open to any and all musicians looking to get up on stage and jam.

Chamber folk sextet Cuddle Magic will be bringing their waves of vocal harmony, contrapuntal brass and woodwinds, and rhythmic cycles to the stage of One Longfellow Square tonight. This is the perfect space to check out this terrific act, alongside local opener and psych-rock n’ roller Jeff Beam, so make sure you don’t miss a beat as the music starts right around 8.

Local folk artist Dave Rowe will be performing at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Join Rowe for some rollicking good times as this free show gets underway at 8pm

Add some folk-pop musical merriment to your midweek get down as the Dapper Gents Duo return to the stage of RiRa for another free show that starts up at 9.

Check out some good tunes and good vibes going down at Portland House of Music and Events tonight as The Maine Dead Project returns to the stage as part of their winter residency. These talented locals will be taking on the tunes of the Grateful Dead as this groovy gathering gets underway right around 9 o’clock.

More midweek fun will be happening at Crooners & Cocktails tonight as Hello Clarice brings some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.

Check out a free show at Gritty’s tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a set starting up at 9:30.

Los Angeles-based DJ and producer The Gaslamp Killer will be heading up at Run The Jewels After Party at Port City Music Hall tonight. Gaslamp Killer’s eclectic style ranges from psychedelia and world music to dubstep and left-field hip-hop. Tonight he’ll be joined by Trackstar The DJ and Brzowski for a party that’ll get poppin’ off right around 10 o’clock.

Geno’s will also be the place to be for some post-Run The Jewels get-down as they welcome YDMC & James Butcher, Trele The God, Lady Essence and Lyokha to the stage for a show that’ll get cranking right around 11.


Local blues-rock artist Clara Junken will be holding it down at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza tonight. Starting at 7 Clara will be playing both her own material as well as few cover tunes AND it’s her birthday so swing on through, show her some love, exchange a high-five and enjoy some terrific tunes as Clara serenades you into the evening hours.

Pete Witham returns to The Frog and Turtle in Westbrook for some fun Americana and rockabilly music this Wednesday. Pete will be joined by a rotating cast of characters as they bring the good times and good tunes to the stage for this free show, which will start at 7:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
