It’s a rather beautiful thing and Thursday generally never disappoints so throw all caution to the wind and do some damage this evening! Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile will be hosting another open mic event over at The Local Buzz. All musicians of varying skills and genres are welcome to get up on the microphone and perform as things get underway right around 7:30pm.
Jonathan’s in Ogunquit welcomes former Americana Idol contestant, folk singer-songwriter, Crystal Bowersox to the stage this evening. Bowersox’s mixture of blues, country, folk and rock has made her one of the most dynamic young voices in music. She has performed alongside everyone from Harry Connick Jr., Joe Cocker, and Alanis Morrisette, to Michael Franti, John Popper and BB King. Check her out tonight as things get underway at 8pm.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
American Ride will be busting out a bunch of modern country covers for you to boogie down to this evening as they play a free show at The Brunswick. This shindig gets swinging at 8.
Local four-piece rock n’ roll band, Riot Act, goes quiet tonight for an acoustic set at The Porthole. Tonight’s free show gets started right around 6.
Take in some tunes out on the Portland Lobster Company deck as local rock and roll act, The Joint Chiefs bring some fun to your Thursday evening. Starting at 6:30 these fellas will get the good times rollin’ with a set of high-energy and big fun cover songs during this free and all-ages event.
Spice things up tonight with a free, outdoor performance from Primo Cubano as Slab’s Summer Music Series continues. Starting at 7 dance the evening away to some of the best classic Cuban music around.
Local acoustic folk roots artist Zach Ovington will be performing at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in the Old Port this Tuesday evening. Enjoy some of Zach’s blues-infused folk tunes as things get underway right around 7 at this free, all ages show.
Portland’s professional Klezmer act, The Casco Bay Tummlers, return to the stage of Blue this evening for a performance filled with traditional Eastern European Jewish compositions. Tonight’s show gets started right at 7pm.
MB Padfield brings her fun fusion of pop, rock, blues, jazz and hip-hop elements back to Brian Boru tonight. Check out Padfield’s impressive guitar skills and smoky vocals as things get underway at 7:30 followed by dance songs spun by DJ Tiny Dancer.
It’s been a hot minute since An Overnight Low has taken the stage here in Portland so do not snooze on tonight’s show chock full of indie pop rock goodness going down at Portland House of Music and Events. This local band will be joined by Portland’s own psych/folk rock n’ roller Dominic Lavoie and local multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Bri Lane. Music gets underway at 9 o’clock this evening.
Ben Kilcollins & The Vargas Twins are back at RiRa tonight for some sweet, acoustic sounds. You know Ben from his time spent fronting local pop-rock act, Kilcollins, but this evening he teams up with the talented Vargas Twins for some fun cover tunes and original songs starting right around 9.
Three talented singer-songwriters from right here in Portland will be teaming up once again for another evening of songs and stories over at Blue. Starting at 9 check out another In The Round Event featuring Max Garcia Conover, Griffin Sherry and Max Davis as they come together on stage to share their own original roots, Americana, and folk compositions.
Toby McAllister of local pop-rock band Sparks The Rescue will be performing a solo set out on the Oasis patio this evening. Starting at 9pm Toby will be performing some of his favorite STR originals as well as some covers of popular tunes from the past 20 plus years.
Mellow your mind with some stellar jams at Gritty’s during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 9.
Award-winning folk artist Anni Clark returns to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza this Thursday evening. Clark will be bringing her acoustic 12-string up to the stage for some original tunes starting at 7.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
