We are alllmost there, my babies! We are drawing in on the freakin’ weekend and thankfully this Thursday seems to be the true kick-off to another fun event-filled few days. Hopefully your Party Pants are pressed because this evening is bringing some serious thunder to your nightlife. Check it out, lots to see and do including Cumberland Crossing at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, Chris Ross and The North at the Norwood Legion Hall, Elijah Ocean with Clara Junken & Joel Thetford at Portland House of Music and Events, Lauren Crosby at the Robinhood Free Meetinghouse, Hambone at The Kennebec Wharf, Rippleton Cross at Pirates Patio, Tricky Britches at the Fort Allen Park bandstand, Chas Lester and Peter Herman at Blue, and more!
If you’re out and about Auburn tonight swing on over to Gritty’s where Mitch Alden will be performing. Mitch Aldren is the creative force behind alternative rock band, Now is Now, so stop by and check out his solo set, which starts right around 8pm.
Local acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is back at the Local Buzz tonight for another free and all ages open mic event. All artists, genres, musical capabilities and ages are welcome to join in on the creative fun as this gathering gets started at 7:30.
Local musician Steve Jones and a few of his friends will be making some joyful noise in Winslow Park this Thursday evening. Jones and company will be performing a blend of rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, roots and more starting at 6:30pm.
Local singer-songwriter Lauren Crosby will be bringing her blues-infused folk tunes to life on stage the Robinhood Free Meetinghouse in Georgetown this evening. Music begins at 7pm.
Local act Alter Igor returns to rock out at The Liberal Cup tonight with their party-starting classic rock tunes. The band will be playing everything from Nick Lowe to The Who and many, many more iconic rock n’ rollers as they get things underway at 8.
Check out some funkadelic sounds courtesy of Hambone as the band bring the party to The Kennebec Wharf tonight. Lots of rock and funk jams will be happening starting at 9 o’clock during this free event.
Roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns to Alisson’s tonight for another free, solo set that’ll start up right around 9 :30 this evening.
Local pop-rock musician Toby McAllister will be performing a solo, acoustic set at Captain Jack’s. Starting at 7pm Toby will be performing some of his own originals as well as some covers of popular tunes from the past 20 plus years.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Local folk-rock cover act Rippleton Cross will be at Pirates Patio this afternoon. Beginning at 4pm the duo will be performing acoustic renditions of songs by such artists as Joe Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, Cat Stevens and many, many more. This event is free so make some plans to check it out if you’re lucky enough to be down to the beach this Thursday.
Pop-rock musician Alex Roy will be performing a set of original tunes and cover songs at Jimmy The Greek’s this evening. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be a good time so swing through if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 7.
American Ride will be busting out a bunch of modern country covers for you to boogie down to this evening as they play a free show at The Brunswick beginning at 8pm.
Maine-based party band The GE3ks will be bringing the good times to The Pier Patio Pub tonight. Starting at 9 get ready to bust a move to some of the best 80’s pop, dance, New Wave, hard rock, rap and one hit wonder tunes around.
Eric Bettencourt is still playing around town and tonight he’ll be joining a few pals once again out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company for some musical merriment. I anticipate lots of good times and good tunes as this free show starts up at 6:30pm.
A very fun evening of music happens at the Fort Allen Park bandstand on the Eastern Prom tonight with local act Tricky Britches. Beginning at 6:30 you can check out the band’s blend of as roots, bluegrass and old-time music during this free and all-ages show.
The Cobblestones will bringing some acoustic country-rock, blues, and Americana sounds to Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight for a free and family-friendly show that’ll get swinging right around 7pm.
Rippin’ rock n’ roll band Riot Act goes quiet tonight for an acoustic set out on the deck of The Porthole. This free party starts up at 7 o’clock.
Blue welcomes the Tracy McMullen Quintet this evening. The ensemble features McMullen on soprano and tenor sax, Mark Tipton on trumpet and flugelhorn, Ryan Blotnick on guitar, Tyler Heydolph on bass, and Peter McLaughlin on drums. Things get underway at 7pm with compositions by both Tracy McMullen and Mark Tipton.
MB Padfield brings her fun fusion of pop, rock, blues, jazz and hip-hop elements back to Brian Boru tonight. Check out Padfield’s impressive guitar skills and smoky vocals as things get underway at 7:30 followed by dance songs spun by DJ Tiny Dancer.
Portland’s electro, psych, garage, and punk-blending band, Leverett will simultaneously say goodbye and celebrate the release of their newest LP titled ‘Wires &Tubes’ with a final farewell performance at SPACE Gallery. Seriously, you guys, if you’ve not had a chance to see these fellas do their thing, tonight is THE night. Joining the bill will be local genre-defying act The Asthmatic, Portland psychedelic rock n’ roller Jeff Beam and his band, and Portland-based power trio Midwestern Medicine. Ben Kilcollins & The Vargas Twins are back at RiRa tonight for some sweet, acoustic sounds. You know Ben from his time spent fronting local pop-rock act, Kilcollins, but this evening he teams up with the talented Vargas Twins for some fun cover tunes and original songs starting right around 9.
Portland rock band OC and the Offbeats bring their brand of blues-infused, soulful rock and/or roll to the Amigos patio this evening. Join this energetic bunch for some awesome tunes and times as things start up right around 9pm during this free and fun show.
Check out a fun evening full of jazz, soul, and singer-songwriter covers interpreted by Chas Lester (vocalist, drummer, beat boxer, pianist) and Peter Herman (guitar) at Blue. Sweet sounds get swinging on stage starting at 9 o’clock.
Acoustic rock, blues, and jazz band, The Paul Houston Project will be bringing the party to the Oasis patio tonight. Things get underway at 9pm during this free show.
Mellow your mind with some stellar jams at Gritty’s during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 9.
Los Angeles-transplant Elijah Ocean returns to Portland tonight to celebrate the release of his brand new, self-titled EP with a show at Portland House of Music and Events. Ocean, who spent many years in the local rock circuit as a part of the band Loverless, has grown into a new sound that directly reflects his musical inspirations and influences such as Willie Nelson, Neil Young, The Band and Gram Parsons. He and his band are ready to serve up some soaring Americana, folk, roots and rock soundscapes off the new record tonight alongside local acts Clara Junken and Joel Thetford who’ll get the evening started with inspiring sets beginning at 9 o’clock.
Easy Day hosts local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett once again this evening as he performs a set of his own original acoustic pop and funk songs as well as some fun covers. Things get started at 6 o’clock, so stop through and check it out if you’re in the area this Thursday evening.
Soulful roots-rock act, Chris Ross and The North will be performing at the Norwood Legion Hall. This talented troupe of Maine-bred fellas is a must-see for fans of Zac Brown Band, John Hiatt, Jason Isbell and other such imaginative storytellers. Tonight’s all-ages show starts up at 7pm.
Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza welcomes back local, contemporary bluegrass band Cumberland Crossing for an early evening of bustling bluegrass music. Tonight’s free, all-ages show gets kickin’ at 7 o’clock.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
