Get the party started at Gritty’s in Auburn tonight with local alt-rock act Zealous Bellus. Let the good times roll as this free shindig starts shaking at 8 o’clock.

Up in Auburn you can rock it out as 4Play turns things up a notch with their lively brand of rock and roll during a free all-ages show at the Fire House Grill. This finally Friday party gets underway at 8 o’clock.


Northern Charm bring a melting pot of musical sounds to the stage of the Hollywood Casino tonight as they play some rock, country, R&B, soul, and funk covers starting up at 8pm.

The Allison Ames Band will be bringing some irresistible dance tunes to Sea Dog Brewing Company tonight as they serve up classic rock covers during a free 21+ event that gets underway right around 9:30.


If you’re south of Portland be sure to check out an all-ages, free show filled with some contemporary Middle Eastern music as Zapion performs at Elements in Biddeford beginning at 8pm.


Local singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Jacquet will be bringing some acoustic Americana, roots-rock and folk tunes to The Daniel Inn Coast Bar + Bistro tonight. Join Dave beginning at 7pm for this free all ages show.


The Gothard Sisters – who really actually are sisters – are also multi-instrumentalist Celtic-influenced folk musicians, songwriters, and performers from the Pacific Northwest who will be live at Calais High School this evening. Check out this all-ages performance as things get underway at 7 o’clock.


Welcome the weekend once again with The Boneheads at The Kennebec Wharf. The band, which has become famous for their unpredictable, impressively musical shows, which often feature band members switching instruments, powerfully dynamic arrangements, and occasionally even hilarious polka versions of tunes, will take to the stage right around 9, so swing through and groove out if you’re in the area tonight.

Central Maine soul, funk and jazz act Boogie Mob will be doing it to it up at Easy Street Lounge in Hallowell this Friday evening. Join in on the free fun as tonight’s 21+ dance party gets shaking at 9 o’clock.


Five-piece funk, rock and blues band Skosh brings the thunder to Pedro O’Hara’s. The band will be performing a mix of covers and originals as this free all-ages party gets underway at 8.


If you’re partying in OOB tonight and looking to keep the summertime vibes rollin’ with some high-energy rock n’ roll then make your way over to Mr. Goodbar as Seacoast act Red Sky Mary blasts off into the rock and roll stratosphere right around 7pm tonight.

Check out local musician Ron Bergeron as he plays a free show at JJ’s Eatery in OOB tonight. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7 with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and more.

The Marshall Nelson Trio will be bringing their fun live show filled with funky covers of such acts as the Spin Doctors, Sublime, Lorde, Police, Foo Fighters, Michael Jackson, George Michael, The Beatles and even some original tunes to the Brunswick tonight. Join these talented gents for an evening full of fun as this things start up at 8:30.

Local electro-pop-rock act Dean Ford & The Keepsakes are back at the Pier Patio Pub for a fun night of pop, rock and dance music. Tonight’s party is free and will feature tones of bumpin’ beats, infectious hooks, serious singalongs, screaming synths and shredding guitar so swing through as things get underway around 9 o’clock.


Singer, songwriter and guitarist Leon Bridges will be bringing his rich, retro-soul sound to the stage of Thompson’s Point for another great outdoor concert. This all ages show will start up at 6pm with an opening set from Lianne La Havas.

Indie-rock and folk artist Brad Byrd will be bringing his left-of-center, pop-influenced tunes to the stage of Blue this evening. Join Byrd for an early evening of song starting up at 6pm.

Get ready for some rollicking rockabilly courtesy of Ragged Jack as the band plays a free show out on the deck of The Porthole this evening. This fun show starts up at 7pm.

Shanna Underwood will be bringing some fine Americana music to Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. Join her for some original music-making as thing get underway during this free all ages show right around 7.

Join super-fun cover band Vinyl Tap as they party down at Portland Lobster Company with all of your favorite dance jams. Vinyl Tap is known for making people bust a move to their wide array of danceable cover tunes that span between everything from everything The Beatles to Huey Lewis, Cee Lo Green, Stevie Wonder, The Dead and many, many more. There’s never a cover charge so check it out starting at 7pm tonight.

Chronic Jazz Syndrome, a six-piece band with piano, bass, and drums, fronted by a horn section, which features famous songs in a jazz style, from Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” to Gretchen Wilson’s “Red Neck Woman”, will be live at Blue tonight. Enjoy some eclectic jazz song selections as things start up at 8.

MJ’s Wine Bar welcomes back Portland piano man Mike Maurice to their lounge-area for a Friday filled with funk, soul and jazz. Join Mike and imbibe in some delicious vino as things get started right around 8.

Local fellas Sylvain’s Acadian Aces are back at Salvage BBQ on Congress Street this finally Friday. Beginning at 8:30 these talented gents will be serving up some authentic Cajun tunes for you to dance around to.

The immensely talented Nigel Hall returns to Maine for a show that is guaranteed to bring all of the funk and soul to your funk and soul holes over at Portland House of Music and Events. Tonight Nige rages out with his band and special guests Dwight & Nicole who will open the night as things underway right around 9. You won’t want to miss this party, so get there early and stay there late.

Local four-piece cover act, Fighting Fiction will be providing the perfect soundtrack for your Friday night with a wide variety of material from all kinds of genres including modern pop, rock, alternative, country, classic rock and more. The band will be doing it to it with a free show starting at 9:30 at Bull Feeney’s.

Portsmouth’s funk-hop outfit Harsh Armadillo will be bringing the party to Brian Boru in the Old Port tonight for a free show that’ll get cranking upstairs at 9:30pm.

Local cover act The Depths will be bringing the party to the Amigos patio tonight. The band will be playing all kinds of songs from all kinds of genres during this free show, which starts up at 9:30.

If you’re looking for some sultry salsa tunes with a bit of a punk edge then look no further than Blue on Congress Street as they welcome back local salsacore act El Malo to their stage starting at 10.

Local cover band Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades during a free show at RiRa tonight. Join in on the dance party as the music gets grooving right around 10.


Central Maine pop-rockers Tomorrow Morning will be playing up at Mainely Brews tonight. Things get started at 9:30 and will feature the band’s funky mix of cover tunes and original material.


Live at 212 in Westbrook will be rocking and rolling once again with the heavy-hitting sounds of acts 13 High, Arta’sin, Two Forty Gordy, Interloc, Mechanical Banshees, Timeout Timmy, Jimmy Jacked, Spillers and Gant. This rager gets rockin’ right around 6pm and rolls on all night long.

The Stockhouse in Westbrook welcomes talented local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett for an evening that’ll spotlight Isaiah’s distinctive blend of acoustic pop and funk. Things get underway right around 8 at this free, fun event.

And don’t forget that starting at 8:30 you can check out some tasty eats and equally tasty tunes at The Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook where Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies return to take over the joint with their own brand of unique and entertaining Americana and rockabilly.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
