AUBURN

Get heavy at tonight’s show at Sapphire as Lamb of God tribute act, A Devil in God’s Country joins forces with Death Rattle, Ripfence and Uncertainty for a Friday that’ll melt your face off. Things get crushing right around 9.

AUGUSTA

Maine-based folk-rocker Brian Patricks will be playing some original tunes and classic covers at The Gin Mill in Augusta tonight. Patricks begins his set right around7:30 so be sure to stop through if you’re out that way tonight.

BATH

Singer-songwriter John Gorka will be performing at the Chocolate Church in Bath tonight. John has been part of the new folk movement since the late 80’s, slowly and steadily carving out his niche. Be sure to check out this show if you’re in the area as things get started right around 7:30.

If you’re in Bath and looking to have your skull rattled a bit, make some plans to take in some live, local, and loud rock at Live at 212 tonight. Starting at 9 you can check out sets from acts False Prophecy and 13 High.

BANGOR

A fun night of progressive, alternative and modern rock will be taking over the Penobscot Pour House up in Bangor tonight as the Trendy Robots get ready to party with an electrifying set of songs that’ll start up at 8 o’clock.

BELFAST

All Roads Music Festival returns this weekend with a couple of days chock full of some the best local tunes around. Kick off the weekend at their Opening Party at Waterfall Arts in Belfast with some terrific indie music courtesy of  Wyld Lyfe and Fenimore. The event is presented by Bangor Savings Bank and starts up at 7.

BIDDEFORD

Elements welcomes singer-songwriter Seth Gooby for a free performance filled with blues, soul and folk sounds. This evening’s all ages event gets underway right around 8 o’clock.

Local cover band Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades during a free show at Champions tonight. Join in on the dance party as the music gets grooving right around 9.

BRUNSWICK

Check out  some live, acoustic tunes from local singer-songwriter Bill Howard as he returns to the stage of The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro this evening. Bill will be playing some songs during this free, all-ages show which gets started up at 7.

BUXTON

Southern Maine cover band Country Roads will be bringing the boot-scootin’ boogie to Chaps Saloon in Buxton tonight as they play tunes from such acts as Florida Georgia Line, George Strait, Jason Aldrean, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn and much, much more during a fun Friday night show that’ll get fired up at 8:30.

FREEPORT

The Kevin Midgley Players return to Gritty’s in Freeport with some Americana and Delta blues. Join them for some good times, good tunes, and good brews as this free show starts up at 8.

GRAY

If you’re spending your Friday evening in Gray, check out singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron as he plays a free show at Cole Farms.  Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7:30 with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and more.

HALLOWELL

Local act Alter Igor returns to rock out at The Kennebec Wharf tonight with their party-starting classic rock tunes. The band will be playing everything from Nick Lowe to The Who and many, many more iconic rock n’ rollers as they get things underway at 9.

If you find yourself up in the Hallowell area this evening be sure to stop by Easy Street Lounge as The Whitefields start rocking right around 9:30. Best described as a folk, funk and rock venture, this band is known for its strong vocal harmonies. Expect a wide range of styles and fun as things get underway tonight.

LEBANON

The Pat Foley Band will be bringing some acoustic country rock to Train’s Tavern in Lebanon tonight. Join the band for some Friday fun as things get swinging at 8.

LEWISTON

Maine-based bluegrass band Back Woods Road return to Guthries in Lewiston this Friday with an energetic set of acoustic tunes. Check out Back Woods Road’s tight harmonies, hard driving lead solos, and crowd-pleasing tunes as things get underway at 8pm during tonight’s free show.

If you’re up in Lewiston this evening be sure to check out a free show featuring local act Shady Lady who’ll be playing a variety of rock, pop, blues and funk starting right around 8:30 at Pedro O’Hara’s.

OLD TOWN

Local electro-pop duo Armies (featuring Dave Gutter and Anna Lombard) bring their duet style anthems inspired by French pop tunes from the sixties to The Boomhouse in Old Town tonight. Check out this free show as things get underway at 8.

PORTLAND

It’s Friday which means it’s time to check out some Happy Hour tunes with local roots rocker Travis James Humphrey at Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland. Starting at 5, Travis will be plucking some strings and singing some things that are certain to get your weekend off to a great start during this free event.

Shanna Underwood hosts another Songwriters in the Round tonight at Blue on Congress Street in Portland. Beginning at 6 Shanna will be joined by two other local singer-songwriters to play some original tunes, tell stories about the songs, and improvise with each other. This show is free and guaranteed to be a great way to kick-start your Friday, so be sure to check it out.

After work get funky with The Blues Mafia as they heat things up out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company at 6:30 This evening’s free show will be chock full of the blues, soul and funk as this high-energy quintet gets your Monday swinging.

Indie Americana folk duo The Rough & Tumble will be playing a free all ages show at Andy’s Old Port Pub this Friday evening. Join these two East Nashville musicians for some seriously fun acoustic tunes as things get underway at 7.

Miss Maybell & Slimpickin’s bring some old time music of the Americana, jug band, ragtime, blues, jazz and country genres to Blue tonight. Transport yourself back in time as things get swinging right around 8.

Don’t snooze on a free show brimming with some great indie rock and roll as Bayside Bowl welcomes Tall Horse, Buddusky and Accidental Seabirds to the stage for an all ages event that’ll get crankin’ at 8.

The Suitcase Junket, Vermont artist Matt Lorenz’s nationally touring, throat-singing, slide guitar playing, one-man-band, will be live on the stage of One Longfellow Square tonight. Opening this evening’s night of music will be Griffin Sherry of local holler folk favorites, The Ghost of Paul Revere.

Don’t miss tonight’s launch party for Go Big For Hunger at Portland House of Music and Events. Go Big For Hunger was created to raise money to support the network of frontline organizations feeding hungry Maine kids and inspiring self-reliance. This celebration will be one of epic proportions as such acts as Pardon Me, Doug, The Maine Dead Project, Jason Spooner Band, The Raging Brass Reggae with John Popper (from Blues Traveler) and comedy by Kimmy take to the stage all evening long for this great cause. Jazz up your Friday night happenings by checking out LQH at The Dogfish Bar & Grille. The immensely talented cats of LQH (Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines) will be bringing their melting pot of sound — everything from soul, jazz, funk, and rock — to life during this free show that’ll get underway at 8.

I am way beyond ready to have my face melted off by a trio of awesome rock and roll acts over at Port City Music Hall in Portland tonight. Tons of rockin’ and rollin’ to be done at Geno’s tonight as Carissa Johnson celebrates the release of her new album “Only Roses” with a party featuring the sounds of The English Muffins, All Quiet Ire and Burr. Tonight’s festivities get underway at 9.

Get down to some Drum & Bass action tonight over at Flask Lounge in Portland as The Digital Mercenaries serve up some sounds that certain to make you shake your groove thing. Tonight’s free rager gets underway at 9 o’clock.

Get throttled tonight with some heavy hitting metal music courtesy of Angel Slayer, Interloc and Enlightened Strangelink as these bands bring the thunder to Mathew’s starting at 9.

If you’re looking to get down to some good tunes then make some moves over to Brian Boru in the Old Port where Doubting Gravity will be getting the party started right around 9:30 with their upbeat, original pop rock.

A double dose of fun at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port this evening where downstairs you can take in some acoustic folk-pop gems from Jacob McCurdy and Danny Rand, while upstairs you can get electric with the pop-rockers of Kilcollins. Both acts will start doing their things, cover-free, beginning at 9:30.

Over at RiRa in the Old Port you can join Vinyl Tap who will be partying down this thirsty Thursday will all of your favorite dance jams. Vinyl Tap is known for making people bust a move to their wide array of danceable cover tunes that span between everything from everything The Beatles to Huey Lewis, Cee Lo Green, Stevie Wonder, The Dead and many, many more. Kick up your heels and enjoy some locally grown music tonight at Blue as Matt Meyer and The Gumption Junction gear up for some good times with a show that gets underway at 10. SABATTUS

Local four-piece cover act, Fighting Fiction will be providing the perfect soundtrack for your Friday night party with a wide variety of material from all kinds of genres including modern pop, rock, alternative, country, classic rock and more. The band will be doing it to it with a free show starting at 8:30 at Mixers in Sabattus.

Tonight electro-pop rock act Dean Ford & The Keepsakes will be treating the Oasis patio to a night of electrified pop, rock and dance music. This show is free and is guaranteed to be chock full of pulsating beats, infections hooks, screaming synths, shredding guitar, and soaring vocals as things get underway right around 9pm.

SACO 

Local acoustic duo October Road will be live at The Kerrymen Pub. The pair will be performing a set of Americana and folk-rock tunes during tonight’s free show starting at 8.

WESTBROOK

Don’t miss a loud, awesome, and high-energy rock and metal show happening at Live at 212 in Westbrook as they welcome Mill Fire, Arta’sin, Weapons at Hand and Port City Saints to the stage for a free show that gets thundering around 7 o’clock.

Phil Divinsky and his Americana rhythm & blues band return to The Frog & Turtle in Westbrook tonight. You can enjoy some delightful sounds starting right around 8:30 at this fabulous gastro pub located in downtown Westbrook.

Holly Nunan

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
