If you’re out and about in Auburn tonight swing over to Gritty’s where Mitch Alden will be performing. Mitch Aldren is the creative force behind alternative rock band, Now is Now, so stop by and check out his solo set, which starts right around 8pm.


With roots in American blues, folk and pop, Phil Allen will likely treat you to some cover tunes ranging anywhere from Johnny Cash to One Republic and all things in between as he plays a free show at The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro tonight. This all ages event will begin at 6 o’clock.


Check out a free show at Skip’s in Buxton tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a bunch of barn burners for ya beginning at 8.


Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile returns to the Local Buzz for another Open Mic this Thursday evening. All artists of different skills and genres are welcome as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 7:30.


Local rock n’ roller, Josh Robbins will be joined by his band of merry misfits, The Sump Pumps, for some good tunes and good times at The Liberal Cup this evening. Tonight’s free gig gets underway right around 7 o’clock.

Get yourself over to the Easy Street Lounge in Hallowell tonight for an evening of fun acoustic jams as Sa Rah’s Serenades continue. Let this lovely local songstress sing you some sweet songs as things get started up at this free show right around 9 o’clock.


TIQA’s Thursday Night Cocktail Club continues with local duo Meraki. This pair of Maine musicians will be bringing you smooth sounds from Motown to the Londontown starting up at 5 o’clock.

Local rockers and rollers The Joint Chiefs will be performing live this Thursday evening out on the Portland Lobster Company deck. Schooled in the classics, from Slim Harpo to Wilco (and what’s beyond and in-between), they have a sound all their own that you can check out for yourself beginning at 6 during this free all ages show.

Portland piano man Mike Maurice returns to Salvage BBQ for some Thursday night honky tonkin’. Mike will be serving up a variety of twangy hits as well as some ragtime tunes and improve jaunts. Check out this free, all ages shindig and enjoy some tasty BBQ as things start up right around 6pm.

Local guitar slinger and singer-songwriter Scott Girouard will be performing at Blue tonight. Starting at 6 you can check out Girouard’s show, which ranges from originals to covers by such artists as Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Moe Bandy and even Bruce Springsteen.
A terrific night of indie folk-rock will be happening at Local Sprouts on Congress Street as local act Lisa/Liza is joined by Brooklyn band Bethlehem Steel and Philly’s Friendship for a free show starting up at 6 o’clock.
Andy’s welcomes folk artist Wheatly Matthews tonight for a free all ages show that’ll begin at 7.

Classically trained Chicago violinist Andrew Bird, whose songwriting compounds elements of indie rock, small-group swing, Gypsy, and folk, will be performing live on the stage of the historic State Theatre tonight. Eclectic, genre-bending solo artist Sinkane will start off tonight’s performance with an opening set slated to being at 8 o’clock.

Critically acclaimed folk and Americana singer-songwriter Amy Speace will be live at Mayo Street Arts this evening. National Public Radio has called her voice “velvety and achy” and compared her to Lucinda Williams. Her songs have been recorded by Judy Collins, Red Molly, Memphis Hall of Fame blues artist Sid Selvidge and others. See her in this intimate setting as opening artist Ben de la Cour starts off the night with a set starting at 8.

Genre-bending alt-rockers The Alternate Routes return to Port City Music Hall tonight as they headline a show alongside Portland’s own alt-country and roots artist Joel Thetford and New York folk-rock singer-songwriter Brian Dunn. Things get started up at this 18+ show right around 8 o’clock.

Jazz artist Viva will be bringing her vivacious vocals back to Sonny’s for another Thursday filled with funk, jazz standards, soul songs and Latin tunes that are done alongside her talented band with a fun and modern twist. Show this Thirsty Thursday what you’ve got as things get underway right around 8 o’clock.

Blue welcomes back contemporary bluegrass band Cumberland Crossing for another night of bustling bluegrass. Tonight’s free show gets kickin’ around 8 and directly following the band’s set will be an all-out bluegrass jam that’s open to any and all musicians who wanna join in. Swing through and have some fun if you’re kicking around downtown this Thursday evening.

The dudes in Kilcollins will be doing it to it over at RiRa on Commercial Street this thirsty Thursday. Starting at 9, Kilcollins plan on rockin’ you with all sorts of tunes that you know in love with a handful of catchy original jams for good measure. It’s free, fun and guaranteed to be a good time, so check it out if you’re downtown this evening.

Powerhouse R&B artist, Alicia Keys, gets the tribute treatment tonight as Jya Marie fronts a band of talented players to bring the singer’s music to life during Empire’s Tribute 2 Alicia Keys event. Tonight’s show starts upstairs at 9pm.

I will be participating in a 28-hour radiothon benefiting the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (Please find out more about Frank 107.5’s Pay 4 Play here) and therefore I’ll be unable to show love and support to one of our own as he returns to the stage of Portland House of Music with his newest musical endeavor tonight. Y’all know what I’m talking about! The Sassquatch of the Soul! The only, the only Lyle Divinsky! Tonight you can see him front high-energy jazz, funk and Afrobeat-influenced, Colorado-based band The Motet. I’m telling you that things are gonna get fun and funky as tonight’s show starts swinging at 9 with an opening set from funk and hip-hop hybrid band Sophistafunk.

Brian Boru in the Old Port welcomes back Boston’s Lovewhip to the stage for a non-stop dance party this evening. Scooch your pooch on over to Boru’s right around 9:30 to bust a move or two to the band’s excessively fun electro-disco-pop.


Don’t miss a performance from one of the County’s finest folks as musician Travis Cyr returns to the Eureka Hall Restaurant in Stockholm tonight. You’ll want to make your way over to this awesome venue to check out the terrific folk and Americana tunes from Cyr as the music starts at 6:30.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
