So I’m not entirely sure what happened, but it definitely felt like Monday drop kicked me straight in the face. Despite such an assault, I’m determined to sport the biggest grin I can muster and turn this Tuesday around with some live, local music. If you’re looking to give this week the one-two punch with some good tunes then might I suggest checking out such shows as Choro Louco at Blue, Ron Bergeron at The Rack, Double Entendre at Andy’s Old Port Pub, and more!
If you’re doing some skiing or snowboarding this week make some plans to stop into The Rack to check out local musician Ron Bergeron as he plays a free show tonight. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7 o’clock with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many more.
Tonight Blue welcomes back local act Trikala. Trikala draws influences from Carnatic Music (South India’s classical music tradition) and jazz, and features an assortment of Western instruments including alto saxophone, guitar, and keyboards. Acoustic Americana act Double Entendre will be playing a set at Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. This talented duo will start making some beautiful noise right around 7 during this free and all ages show.
Take in some tunes from Portland’s only Brazilian choro ensemble, Choro Louco, as they play another show at Blue. Choro Louco features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam. This evening’s performance begins at 8:30pm. Check it out.
Another Open DJ Night is happening at Flask Lounge. Starting at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open tables and all you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones! This event is absolutely free and always a good time so go on and check it out.
Check out a free show at Gritty’s tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a set starting up at 9.
Empire’s Three for 3 series continues this Tuesday with hip-swinging surf pop act Wedding Camp, the sludgy weirdos of Cadaverette, and riff-based quartet An Anderson. Tonight’s $3 show starts upstairs at 9.
Uke n’ Smile returns to Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland tonight to host yet another open mic. Things start up at 8 and all musicians are encouraged to join in on the creative and musical fun.
