I must say, I’m feeling pretty good about this Tuesday evening as things are shaping up with tons of great tunes all around town and beyond. If you’re ready to get weird and wild tonight, here’s some stuff to check out including Lyle Divinsky at Portland House of Music, El Dub at The Porthole, Ronda Dale at Andy’s Old Port Pub, Anderson East at Port City Music Hall, Travis James Humphrey at Gritty’s and more!
Self-proclaimed Sasquatch of Soul, Lyle Divinsky, returns to do his thing out on the patio of Portland House of Music and Events this evening. Starting at 4 o’clock Lyle and a few pals will be laying down some seriously smooth funk, soul, and R&B jams during this free all ages show.
Take in some funk, reggae, rock, and blues jams down at The Porthole tonight as they welcome one-man band El Dub to the deck. El Dub is a multi-instrumentalist who’s live performance includes beat boxing, guitar, bass, keys, and harmonizing vocals looped into layers of sound. Music starts up at 6 o’clock tonight.
Blue welcomes Trikala back to the stage tonight. The act draws their influences from Carnatic Music (South India’s classical music tradition) and jazz and features an assortment of Western instruments including alto saxophone, guitar, and keyboards. Stop in beginning at 6:30pm as these musicians blend Western timbres, Eastern melody, and rhythm to create evocative compositions steeped in tradition with a contemporary twist.
It should be another beautiful evening out on the Portland Lobster Company deck where Captain Ray and the Castaways will keep you dancing all evening long with some rock and/or roll. This free party starts at 6:30 check it out if you’re downtown tonight.
Start off your evening with a free show from local singer-songwriter Ronda Dale at Andy’s Old Port Pub in the Old Port. Starting at 7pm, Ronda will be filling to space with some delightful sounds during this all-ages, acoustic performance.
Check out some great tunes from Portland’s only Brazilian choro ensemble, Choro Louco as they play a free show at Blue tonight. Choro Louco features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam. This evening’s performance gets underway at 8:30.
90’s cover band Ice Cold Zima will be rockin’ their regular Tueday night gig down at Portland House of Music and Events tonight. Get your nostalgia on with cover tunes from No Doubt, Fiona Apple, The Cardigans, 4 Non Blondes, Green Day, Lauryn Hill, Bonnie Raitt, Stone Temple Pilots, Alanis Morissette, and more as the party gets poppin’ at 9 o’clock.
Empire’s summer music series Rhythm & Tues continues tonight with cover act The Class Reunion. The band features a ton of talented local players performing a bunch of fun throwback funk, blues, and R&B covers. Check it out as the party starts upstairs right around 9.
Another Open DJ Night is happening at Flask Lounge. Beginning at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open decks. All you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones. This event is absolutely free and always a good time, so go on and check it out.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
