Here are the happenings for your Mid-Week Party including Irish Night at Blue featuring Kevin Crawford & Cillian Vallely of Lunasa, Rap Night at the Asylum, Maine Songwriters’ Association’s Songwriters on Stage event at Frontier, Dapper Gents Duo at RiRa, Bess Berg and Company at The Frog and Turtle and more!
The Maine Songwriters’ Association presents another installment of their monthly series, Songwriters on Stage, at Frontier in Brunswick. The event showcases some of the brightest songwriters in the state coming together to share their original compositions and stories. This month’s event features three seasoned performers alongside an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It’s an opportunity for listeners to discover new music as well as hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. Tonight’s concert gets underway at 7 and features Brad Hooper, Tom McKeon, Jenny Van West, and Karen Gray.
Guitarist and singer-songwriter Dave Jacquet returns to his post as host with the most for another free Open Mic at Cole Farms in Gray this Wednesday evening. Starting at 7:30, all musicians are welcome to join in on the fun and make some music up on stage with Dave and a few of his friends as they share songs and stories all night long.
The Working Dead are back at Portland House of Music and Events this evening. This group of talented musicians will be serving up some Happy Hour jams during a free show that starts up at 4:30pm. Check out the act’s fun covers of Grateful Dead and other classic jam band tunes.
Blue’s Irish Concert Series continues tonight with a featured set from Kevin Crawford and Cillian Vallely, two members of one of the most highly rated contemporary Irish bands, Lunasa. Tonight’s tickets show starts at 7:30 and will be followed by another Wednesday evening Irish Session open to any and all musicians looking to get up on stage and jam.
Get the party started tonight at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in the Old Port as local duo the Squid Jiggers play their own brand of folk-infused drinking tunes. The fellas get the things started right around 8 and there’s never, ever a cover charge and plenty of delicious drinks, so check it out!
If you’re looking for some acoustic roots tunes to wind down to this Wednesday, make your way over to Andy’s Old Port Pub in the Old Port as local act David Beam and The Custom House Gang serve up some fun and free tunes starting right around 8 o’clock.
Rap Night returns to the Asylum in Portland this Wednesday to highlight some of the best local hip-hop around. Every week Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra team up to host this hip-hop heavy party that features some of the dopest emcees around. Things get fresh starting at 9 o’clock, so head downtown and check it out.
Local act Silent Force is back to bring the good times and good tunes to Portland House of Music and Events tonight as Afrobeat Wednesdays roll on. Featuring members of Model Airplane, ShaShaSha, Micromasse, The Fogcutters, and more, Silent Force will keep you dancing all night long as they pay tribute to the funkiest sounds from Africa starting at 9pm.
Bess Berg and Company brings the midweek musical merriment to the Frog and Turtle tonight. Beginning at 7:30pm, you can stop in and enjoy an evening of jazz piano paired with bass, sax and drums during this free all-ages event.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
