There are a lot of cool things happening, so hike up your Party Pants and get ready to throw down this evening at such shows as Ronda Dale at Andy’s, Aoife O’ Donovan at One Longfellow Square, Under The Influence with Fenimore and Teal Child (Altered Gee) at Portland House of Music and more!
Blue welcomes back the Hardy Brothers Indian Ensemble this evening. The act draws from Carnatic Music (South India’s classical music tradition) and jazz and features an assortment of Western instruments including alto saxophone, guitar, and keyboards, but its harmony and melody is based on the Carnatic raga and tala system. The musicians blend Western timbres, Eastern melody, and rhythm to create evocative compositions steeped in tradition with a contemporary twist. Start your Tuesday evening with a free show from local singer-songwriter Ronda Dale at Andy’s Old Port Pub in the Old Port. Beginning at 7pm, Ronda will be filling to space with some delightful sounds during this all-ages, acoustic performance.
Singer-songwriter Aoife O’Donovan returns to Portland tonight for a performance at One Longfellow Square this evening. O’Donovan brings hers country-tinged folk and Americana tunes to life this evening alongside special guest and show opener Cassandra Jenkins. This evening’s event will get underway at 8pm.
Don’t miss another performance from Portland’s only Brazilian choro ensemble,Choro Louco as they play a free show at Blue on Congress Street in Portland tonight. Choro Louco, which features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam, get things starting at 8:30.
Norwegian heavy-hitters Kvelertak will be bringing their punk rock-tinged black metal to Port City Music Hall tonight. Also bringing the Tuesday night thunder is Torche, a Florida-based quartet that balances melody with crushing heaviness, creating a surprisingly uplifting and anthemic brand of doom metal, and hard-hitting metal trio Wild Throne. Skull crushing gets underway at this 18+ show right around 9 o’clock.
Flask Lounge hosts another open mic night for DJs this Tuesday. Tonight’s event allows up-and-coming song spinners to take a chance and get up on the tables alongside veteran DJs. All you need to bring to participate are your records, CDs and controller. All formats of music are welcome as the fun gets starting right around 9.
Portland House of Music and Events’ weekly series, Under The Influence continues tonight with two bands that promise to bring the jams for you to bust a proper Tuesday move to. The series, which showcases local bands’ original compositions alongside cover tunes from acts that have helped influence the local acts’ sound, is both fun and informative. Tonight Fenimore will be showcasing some surrealist beats and electro sounds alongside the modern funk, soul and hip-hip of Teal Child (Altered Gee). Things get underway at 9 with both original songs and covers from such artists Toni Braxton, Princess, Mariah Carey, Tangerine Dream, SEGA OST’s and more, so be sure to check it out this Tuesday evening.
Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port presents another acoustic Open Mic with one of the members of local folk-pop act, The Dapper Gents, Jacob McCurdy. Jacob will be playing and emceeing at this free and fun Tuesday night party. Tonight he invites everyone on to the stage to show off their musical talents starting at 9:30.
Check out another acoustic Open Mic hosted by The Run of the Mill in Saco this Tuesday evening. Beginning at 8 o’clock all musicians are welcome to join in on the fun during this free all-ages event.
