Get heavy with RUIN, Withered, Immortal Bird & Shabti at SPACE Gallery tonight

Oh man, I might be a little too excited about Thursday finally making its way back around to us all. This week has been dragging a bit of ace and I am seriously, super ready for the weekend. Let’s get this thing going, shall we? Check out fun shows such as Steve Jones at The Liberal Cup, Ron Bergeron at Bueno Loco, Rippleton Cross at Andy’s Old Port Pub, The DuPont Brothers at Blue, Don Campbell at The Kerrymen Pub, and more!


Peter Finkle will be playing an acoustic set of songs at Gritty’s Auburn location this Thirsty Thursday. Join in on the musical revelry as this free show starts up at 8.


Check out local musician Ron Bergeron as he plays another free show at Bueno Loco in Falmouth tonight. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 6 o’clock with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many more.


Local musician Steve Jones and a few of his musically inclined friends will be playing some songs at The Liberal Cup this evening. Jones and company will be performing a blend of rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, roots and more starting at 7 o’clock.

Local siren Sa Rah brings her evening of serenades back to the Easy Street Lounge this Thursday. Get cozy, grab yourself a delicious cocktail, and enjoy some fine tunes as things get started up at 9:30.


Solo pianist and vocalist Josh Hatfield will be performing at Pedro O’Hara’s tonight. Beginning at 7 Hatfield will be playing classics from Billy Joel to the Zac Brown Band and many more; there is sure to be something that everyone will enjoy during this free all-ages shindig.


Pop-rock and roller Alex Roy will be performing a set of original tunes and cover songs at Jimmy The Greek’s this Thirsty Thursday. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be a good time so swing through if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 7.


Folk-rock cover act Rippleton Cross will be performing an acoustic set at Andy’s Old Port Pub. This free, all-ages show will feature the pair performing renditions of songs by such artists as The Who, Joe Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, Cat Stevens and many more as things get started right around 6pm.

Check out The Grassholes as they play some feel-good bluegrass tunes at Flatbread on Commercial Street tonight. Starting at 6:30, kick back, enjoy some beer, delicious food, and mighty fine tunes during this free, all-ages shindig.

Tonight Blue welcomes local act Lost Cartoons to the stage. The project consists of local indie singer-songwriters Greg Jamie (former owner of The Oak & Ax) and Vince Nez (Mousa & The Last Sip) and music will begin tonight right around 6:30pm.

The Portland Jazz Orchestra returns to One Longfellow Square tonight. This 18-piece jazz ensemble performs a variety of traditional and contemporary big band literature. The PJO plays works written by members such as Craig Skeffington, Willie Johnson, Chris Humphrey and Terry White in addition to literature composed by a variety of jazz artists including Tom Kubis, Matt Harris, Bob Mintzer, Bill Holman and Maria Schneider. You can check them out as things begin right around 8pm.

Local act RUIN makes its SPACE Gallery debut as they headline an evening of heavy music that’s guaranteed to bring the thunder, especially with their unique blend of thrash-influenced metal. Atlanta’s Withered, Chicago’s Immortal Bird and Portland’s own black/death metal meanderers Shabti round out tonight’s thunderous bill as things get loud, awesome and super heavy starting at 8:30pm.

Jam out this Thirsty Thursday with A Band Beyond Description at Gritty’s in the Old Port. Get your free Grateful Dead freak out on starting at 9.

The super fun fellas in local act Kilcollins will be doing it to it over at RiRa on Commercial Street this Thirsty Thursday. Starting at 9, the boys will be rockin’ you with all sorts of tunes that you know and love alongside a handful of catchy original jams for good measure. It’s free, fun and I would say guaranteed to be a good time, so check it out if you’re downtown this evening.

Vermont-based folk-Americana act The DuPont Brothers return to fill Blue with all kinds of lovely sounds as they perform another Thursday night show starting up at 9 o’clock.

The Scolded Dogs return to Brian Boru to do a little partying during another free show tonight. Starting at 9:30 you can expect to hear some awesome originals as well as cover tunes from such acts as Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg, and many more.


Local adult-contemporary folk rocker Don Campbell returns to the stage of the Kerrymen Pub this evening. Check out Campbell’s solo set as the music starts during this free show at 6:30pm.


Local artist Peter Albert will be performing once again at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza this evening. Beginning at 7 Albert will be playing some solo, 6 and 12 string and nylon string guitar music from 16th century to Leo Kottke and beyond.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
