Oh my, my, oh hell yes, you gotta put on them Party Pants because it’s Wednesday! (I feel as if Tom Petty might be disappointed in me for that one, oh well)… We’re half way to the freakin’ weekend, babies, and what better cause for celebration? Once again, lots of appealing events to check out this evening, so get some sustenance into your grocery holes, slip into those Party Pants and get on out there tonight. The Maine Songwriters’ Association presents another installment of their monthly series, Songwriters on Stage, tonight at Frontier in Brunswick. The event showcases some of the brightest songwriters in the state coming together to share their original compositions and stories. This month’s event features three seasoned performers alongside an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It’s an opportunity for listeners to discover new music as well as hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. Tonight’s concert gets started at 7 and will feature performances by Shanna Underwood, Greg Klein, and Phil Daligan with emerging songwriter Kate Miller.
The Working Dead are back to bring the good vibes to Portland House of Music and Events this evening. This trio of talented, local musicians will be serving up some Happy Hour Grateful Dead jams during a free show that starts at 5 o’clock.
Blue’s Irish Concert Series continues with a featured performance from Will Woodson and Friends. Will is an innovative and powerful young performer of traditional and contemporary music on Scottish bellows pipes, wooden flute, and tin whistle. David Beam and the Custom House Gang will be serving up some down home, acoustic roots tunes to wind down your Wednesday with over at Andy’s Old Port Pub. The local act will get things rolling along right around 8 o’clock.
Two of my favorite Portland players (and people) will be joining musical forces once again this evening for MJ’s Wine Bar‘s Ladies in Red music series. Starting around 8 make some plans to stop on by and check out local siren Renee Coolbrith and Portland piano man Kris Rodgers as the pair serenade you with some seriously sweet sounds during this free show.
Over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port you can check out another fun evening of folk tunes with local musician Dave Rowe. Rowe will be making some sounds that pair perfectly with a pint so swing through and check him out if you’re in the downtown area this evening.
Built To Last, a Grateful Dead experience which featuring members of The Working Dead, Maine Dead Project, and Smoked Salmon, will be bringing some good vibes to the stage of Portland House of Music tonight. Groovy Grateful Dead jams abound as things start up at 9.
