Happy Hump Day! We’re inching our way slowly but surely to another wild weekend, so let’s take some time to celebrate this milestone by getting out there and raging this Wednesday. If you’re south of Portland tonight and looking to take in some tasty roots rock jams then make your way down to Champions Sports Bar in Biddeford where Travis James Humphrey will be playing a solo set of tunes. Humphrey will be doing his thing starting at 9. It’s a free event with plenty of beer on hand so no excuses; check it out!


The Maine Songwriters’ Association presents the season premier of their monthly series, Songwriters on Stage, tonight at Frontier in Brunswick. The event showcases some of the brightest songwriters in the state coming together to share their original compositions and stories. This month’s event features three seasoned performers alongside an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It’s an opportunity for listeners to discover new music as well as hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. Tonight’s concert gets started at 7 and features performances by Martin Swinger, John Schindler, Tom Mitchell, and Ted DeMille.


Attention Dead Heads! You’ve got two chances to get your noodle on at Portland House of Music this Wednesday. Your first chance happens during Happy Hour with The Working Dead as they play a free show out on the patio. Starting at 4 this talented trio will be playing all your favorite Grateful Dead tunes as well as some various covers from other beloved jam bands so make some plans to check it out.

You guys, autumn doesn’t officially commence until September 22nd so we should savor the opportunities to take in some outdoor music while we can. Start tonight out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street where local folk-rocker Eric Bettencourt and a couple of his talented pals will be doing their thing starting right around 6. Join Bettencourt and his buds for some good times overlooking the Atlantic at this free and fun gig.

Psychedelic rock and/or roller Jeff Beam and his band will be bringing some original tunes to the outdoor stage in Congress Square Park tonight. Enjoy another beautiful evening downtown while taking in some terrific live music as this all ages and free show starts up at 6pm.

If you’re looking for some down-home, acoustic roots tunes to take in this Wednesday evening, look no further than Andy’s Old Port Pub as local act David Beam and The Custom House Gang come together once again for a free show that starts up at 7.

Blue’s Irish Concert Series continues with a featured performance from musical duo Eric McDonald and Will Woodson. Their starts at 7:30 and will be followed by another Wednesday evening Irish Session open to any and all musicians looking to get up on stage and jam.

Folk artist Dave Rowe will be performing at Bull Feeney’s tonight. Join Rowe for some rollicking good times as this free show starts at 8 o’clock.

Classically trained and roots music-raised trio The Stray Birds will be performing live at One Longfellow Square this evening. The band’s passionate live shows and critically acclaimed recordings have launched them to turntables and festival stages around the globe. You can check ‘em out starting at 8 o’clock tonight.

The English Beat returns to Portland with a midweek party chock full fun and ska down at Port City Music Hall on Congress Street. Things get cranking right around 8 with an opening set from Portland’s own Afro-fusion, reggae, and ska band, Zeme Libre.

Your second chance to catch some great Dead tunes at Portland House of Music happens right around 9 as The Maine Dead Project continues their summer residency. These talented local musicians will be bringing the sounds of the Grateful Dead and more to the stage so swing through and check ‘em out if you’re downtown this Wednesday evening.

Get your folk-pop on tonight with a free show from the Dapper Gents Duo as they return to the stage of RiRa for a free show that’ll get underway at 9 o’clock.

Local cover act The Depths will be bringing the party to the Oasis patio tonight . The band will be playing all kinds of songs from all kinds of genres during this free show, which starts up at 9 o’clock.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.
