Jethro Tull’s Martin Barre performs at One Longfellow Square tonight

We are really getting after it this week! It’s already Wednesday and I feel a-okay! If you’re as ecstatic about making if half way to the weekend as I am, please join me in hiking up your most festive of Party Pants and getting down on it this evening! There are a ton of great shows happening including Travis James Humphrey at Champions, Ray’s Occult, Spillers, Gant & Battery Steele at Flask Lounge, Hello Clarice at Crooners & Cocktails, Bill Umbel and the Umbelievables at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and more, so let’s join forces and do it to it! Here we go!

BIDDEFORD

Check out a free show down at Champions tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a free show starting up at 9:30pm.

BRUNSWICK

Composer, saxophonist and educator Frank Mauceri will be joined by fellow musicians Sam Sherry on bass, drummer Michael Boucher, and pianist Jake Sturtevant for a performance this evening at Frontier as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge music series. Tonight’s event will feature some of Maurceri’s original jazz and chamber music compositions. This free show will start at 7:30pm.

GRAY

Local folk-rock duo Rippleton Cross returns to Cole Farms this Wednesday evening to host another free and fun open mic event. The pair will be performing some tunes as well as encouraging other musicians to get up on the mic and have some fun. This all-ages gathering will get underway right around 7 o’clock tonight.

PORTLAND

Hurdle the hump with some acoustic roots tunes as David Beam & Friends return to Andy’s Old Port Pub for some midweek fun. This talented troupe will begin playing right around 7 during this free and all-ages event.

Check out some fine tunes at Blue‘s Irish Concert Series event tonight as they welcome Ellen Gawler and Baron Collins Hill to the stage for a night full of pickin’ and pluckin’. This all-ages show will get started up at 7:30.

Tonight One Longfellow Square gears up for the second evening of a two-night stint with legendary Jethro Tull lead guitarist Martin Barre. Barre’s playing has provided much of the energy that allows Tull to soar on recordings and in concert. Barre’s solo work allows him to stretch out in directions that Tull normally doesn’t go, and to put his instrument into new sounds, genres, and musical contexts. Tonight Barre and his band present an all electric show that’ll start up at 8 o’clock.

If you’re looking for some midweek punk rock then be sure to check out tonight’s show at Flask Lounge featuring the cool tunes Ray’s Occult, Spillers, Gant and Battery Steele. This free shindig is guaranteed to be a party as things start up at 8pm.

Local folk musician Dave Rowe will be playing another free show over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Join Rowe for some good times and good tunes as things start up right around 8 o’clock.

Folk-pop-rock act the Dapper Gents Duo returns to RiRa for some good times and good tunes tonight. This free party gets started at 9 o’clock.

More midweek fun will be happening at Crooners & Cocktails tonight as Hello Clarice brings some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.

EDIT: This week’s Clash has been postponed. I imagine that a giant dance party will likely take over the Empire tonight as this week’s Clash of the Titans pits the Talking Heads against LCD Soundsystem for the latest installment of the battle of the local cover bands. Bust out your dancing shoes and finest, midweek Party Pants as the music starts up at 9:30pm.

WESTBROOK

Bill Umbel and the Umbelievables bring some fun sounds to the stage of Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza. Lots of bluegrass goodness will start up right around 7pm during this free and all ages show.
