KGFREEZE, Tall Horse, Lady Essence, Pretty Sad, Jeff Beam & The Up and Ups Come Together at HOME tonight


Yeah, yeah, I know, I know… I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I have never, ever been more elated to see the arrival of Friday! This week felt like a kick to the head and I’m ready to let my freak flag fly and take in some live tuneage over the next couple of days. Let’s start with tonight as this Friday is gearing up to be one helluva party with shows such as Tribute 2 James Taylor at Empire, Zex, Chalice, Hessian, Worshipper & R.I.P. at Geno’s, OC and the Offbeats at Brian Boru, Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies at Bayside Bowl, The Grassholes at Salvage BBQ, The Juke Joint Devils at Gritty’s in Auburn, Sam Chase at Champions, Builder of the House & Max Garcia Conover at Frontier, Zealous Bellus at Tailgate Bar & Grill, Peddle Steal at Smokin’ Blues Grill, The Ghosts of Johnson City at Blue and so very much more. Here we go!


Gritty’s in Auburn will be jumping as they welcome The Juke Joint Devils back to the stage this Friday to kick out some old time, hard driving blues. Tonight’s show gets swinging around 8 and is absolutely free.

Ed Tierney returns to Fire House Grille to rock and roll, acoustically, during a free all ages show that’ll start up right around 8:30 this finally Friday.


If you find yourself north of Portland this evening, folk-rocker Brian Patricks will be playing a handful of original tunes and classic cover songs at the Gin Mill in Augusta. Patricks begins his set right around 7:30.


Swampy roots and blues rockers the Eric Green Party will be — well, what else? — partying up in Bangor tonight as they get set to perform a free show starting at 8 at the Hollywood Casino.


Start things off this evening by checking out a free show at Champions in Biddeford where local acoustic folk singer-songwriter Sam Chase will be playing right around 6 o’clock.

Check out some fine banjo-based bluegrass tunes at Elements on Main Street tonight as they welcome back local act Banjo Read McNamara for a Friday night full of pickin’ and pluckin’. This free all-ages show will get started up at 8 o’clock.


The Daniel Inn Coast Bar + Bistro welcomes back local singer-songwriter Andrew Yankowsky for a free all-ages performance. Known for his unique voice and off the cuff improvisation, Andrew blends roots, rock, reggae, folk and hip-hop for a sound all his own, check him out beginning at 7.

Indie pop duo Builder of the House and folk troubadour Max Garcia Conover will be join forces for a Friday night of music at Frontier in Brunswick. Lots of terrific original tunes to take in this evening as the acts take the stage beginning at 8 o’clock.


If you’re kicking up in Carrabassett Valley this Friday be sure to check out some fun rock and/or roll courtesy of local act The Grumps at The Rack. These guys will get the good times rollin’ right around 9.


Tailgate Bar & Grille in Gray is the place to be for a Friday night full of rock and alternative covers as well as original songs as they welcome local act Zealous Bellus to the stage. The fellas are ready to kick things into a full tilt rage for this free show starting right around 9.


Local pop-rock cover act The Nikki Hunt Band will be bringing the party to the Easy Street Lounge tonight. Covering artists such as Sheryl Crow, Joan Jett, Bruce Springsteen, Sublime, No Doubt, The Doors, U2 and many more there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone. Tonight’s performance will also include a colorful hula hoop act so be sure to check it out starting at 9pm.


Peddle Steal will be bringing some old school country sounds to the Smokin’ Blues Grill in Hollis Center tonight. Join them for some serious fun as things start up at 6pm.


The Widowmaker Lounge at Sugarloaf welcomes back Boston-based rock act Richard James & The Name Changers to the stage tonight. The piano-driven band specifies their genre as “whiskey-infused roots rock and roll.” They’ll be getting after it starting at 9:30 tonight, so check it out if you’re feeling funky this Friday.


Super skilled local guitarist Seth Warner will be bringing his trio to Guthries in Lewiston this Friday. Check out this impresario’s impressive sounds as things get underway right around 8 at this free, all ages blues show.

If you’re up in Lewiston this evening be sure to check out a free show featuring local act Shady Lady who’ll be playing a variety of rock, pop, blues and funk starting right around 8:30 at Pedro O’Hara’s.


Acoustic trio Fog Ave will be bringing the good times and good tunes to Funky Bow Brewery in Lyman this evening. Starting at 5 o’clock this troupe of talented fellas will be playing some unplugged covers of such artists as Paul Simon, U2, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Monkees and many, many more.


Check out a fun Happy Hour show featuring local act Zombie Beach at GFB Scottish Pub. Starting at 5 Zombie Beach will be delivering some quirky, cool surf-rock and psychobilly during a free show.

Local pop-rockers, Kilcollins will be back on stage at The Brunswick as they get the party started right around 8:30 with a mix of original material and cover tunes. Tonight’s show is absolutely free so swing through if you’re Fridaying on the beach!


Local pop-rock outfit  The Still is back at Portland House of Music and Events this finally Friday for another Happy Hour set that’ll get started at 4. Don’t miss out on your chance to enjoy some good tunes, good times, and great drink specials with some great people during this free and fun event.

Blue welcomes back local act The Ghosts of Johnson City this Friday evening. The band will present an evening of old mountain music, Civil War songs, coal-mining melodies, tunes of love and loss, and haunting murder ballads from the American South starting at 6pm.

Honey Thief will be bringing some original indie folk sounds to Andy’s Old Port Pub. Join the band for some finally Friday fun as this free all-ages shindig gets swinging at 7.

Some serious getting down will be happening at Blue tonight as they welcome back jazz, funk and fusion act Sassquatch to the stage for some serious fun. Get into the groove as things get fun and funky beginning at 8.

Massachusetts-based guitarist and bandleader, Johnny A returns to the stage of One Longfellow Square this Friday evening. Don’t miss your chance to check out his rock n’ roll influenced guitar work as things get underway at 8pm.

Over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland The Waiters will be serving up some quality tunes for you to ease into the freakin’ weekend with. The Waiters will be dishing out all of your favorite cover tunes starting right around 8.

Check out some awesome punk rock and even enjoy a taco or two over at Hella Good Tacos on Washington Ave as they welcome No Good, Suburban SamuraiSeasonal Disorders, and Stanley Beck of Bummed Out for a free show that’ll get underway at 8.

Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies take over Bayside Bowl this evening with their own brand of twisted Americana/rockabilly. These fellas always know how to have a good time by playing some seriously awesome tunes. Check ‘em out as the party starts right around 8:30.

Check out The Grassholes as they play some feel-good bluegrass tunes at Salvage BBQ on Congress Street tonight. Starting at 8:30, kick back, enjoy some beer, delicious food, and mighty fine tunes during this free, all-ages shindig.

The musical event known as Come Together returns to Portland House of Music and Events for another eclectic variety show with an in the round stage set up that completely surrounds the audience with music. Tall Horse, Lady Essence, Pretty Sad, Jeff Beam and The Up and Ups will all take turns playing their songs in a showcase that is engaging, fun and completely out of the ordinary. Tonight’s 21+ event starts promptly at 9pm.

Shake your can at tonight’s edition of Trvp Night at Flask Lounge in Portland. Starting at 9, Don Damiani, Jams Frrever and Laura Vanilla are ready to make you sweat out on the dance floor as this free party gets poppin’ right around 9.

Septic Lizard presents a metal and punk showcase at Geno’s Rock Club tonight featuring sets from Zex, Chalice, Hessian, Worshipper and RIP. Things get loud and awesome starting at 9:30pm.

Empire’s Tribute 2 music series rolls on this evening with a show dedicated to the sounds of Sweet Baby James. That’s right, starting at 9:30pm upstairs at Empire you can see a variety of talented local players come together to pay homage to the one and only James Taylor.

Portland based rock band OC and the Offbeats brings a new brand of blues and soul to the table tonight as they play a super fun and super free show at Brian Boru in the Old Port. Join this energetic act for a night of awesome tunes as things start up upstairs right around 9:30

Local funk quintet Canned Bread returns to Blue tonight. Starting at 10, check out the band’s innovative sound that blends elements of jazz, reggae, hip hop, and soul music.


Check out some modern country covers from local act Whiskey Militia as they bring the party to Mixers tonight. This Central Maine act will be rocking you with songs artists like Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Josh Thompson, Jake Owen and more. They’ll also be joined by special guest, local songstress Meghan Clark, as this free show gets shaking right around 8:30pm.


Radio Revival will be playing you a plethora of songs that you know and love including tunes from Queen, ELO, Bowie, Tom Petty, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, The Strokes, Thin Lizzy, Weezer and more at the Kerrymen Pub tonight as this free show gets rockin’ and rollin’ right around 7pm.


Starting at 7:30 up at Thatcher’s in SoPo you can check out some classic rock covers with a little bit of southern rock thrown in as well from New Hampshire band Rosie.


Phil Divinsky shows us once again all where his soul-singing son Lyle got all his musical prowess from the evening as he and his Americana rhythm & blues band return to The Frog & Turtle in Westbrook tonight.  You can enjoy some delightful sounds starting right around 8:30 at this fabulous gastro pub located right in downtown Westbrook.

Get your skull rattled around a bit this Friday with some live, local, and loud metal at Live at 212. Starting at 9 you can check out sets from Cryptic Slaughter, Devils Nite Out, Culling The Herd and Tuesday Morning Wrestling during this 21+ show.


Local acoustic duo October Road will be live at The Deckhouse Sports Tavern. The pair will be performing a set of Americana and folk-rock tunes during tonight’s free, all-ages show starting at 6.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
