Los Galactacos perform Live in the Lounge at Frontier tonight

We’re half way to the freakin’ weekend and this Wednesday is guaranteed to help you get the good times rolling, so hike up your Midweek Party Pants and get it to it this evening at such performances as the Don Roy Ensemble at Blue, Acoustic Punk Night at Flask Lounge, Never Been To Tennessee at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza and more!


Los Galactacos, a local musical group made of adventuring stringbenders, strummers, pickers, and percussionists exploring an atlas of music styles and songs, will be performing at Frontier tonight as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge music series. Their repertoire is the standards of cultures from across the Americas, and across the seas: Tex/Mex folk, Appalachian string music, Canadian Maritimes fiddle tunes, the Classic American Songbook, ol’ time Country, and more. Check them out as things get underway at 7:30 tonight.


Make some plans tonight to check out the down-home, acoustic roots sounds of David Beam & Friends at Andy’s Old Port Pub. This lively bunch will be playing some great music for your midweek wind-down so swing through and enjoy this free and all-ages show starting at 7pm.

Irish Night at Blue continues with a featured performance by local act the Don Roy Ensemble. At the forefront of the fiddling community in the Greater Portland area, one finds the musical duo of Don and Cindy Roy who have long entertained audiences in the Southern Maine area and beyond. Add bassist Jay Young and you have the Don Roy Ensemble, which you can check out for yourself as the music starts up tonight at 7:30 tonight.

Local folk artist Dave Rowe will be performing at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Join Rowe for some good times and good tunes as this free show gets underway at 8pm

Check out a super fun and free show over at Flask Lounge tonight as they host another installment of Acoustic Punk Night featuring stripped down, acoustic tunes from Scotty Saints of Port City Saints, Andy Greene & The American Pastime, Andrea Leighton of Annie & The Guns, Lucas Heyoka of Slow Coyote, Tuesday Morning Wrestling, Carlton Trott & The Mother Night, and Black Market Pine. Check out some unplugged punk performances as things start up at 8.

Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to RiRa tonight for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fellas for some musical revelry as this free show starts up at 9pm.

Local country act Never Been To Tennessee will be singing some songs at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza tonight. Starting at 7 Scott Girouard and Kevin Ward will be serving up classic country covers from such artists as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and a whole lot more during this free, all ages show.

The Frog and Turtle welcomes back local musician Tom Douglas for an evening of acoustic classic covers and original songs. Join Tom as this free and all-ages show starts up at 7:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
