Ohhh yeahhh! Now picture the Kool Aid dude smashing straight through a brick wall to announce that it is Tuesday! That dude represents my feelings to the fullest today as we move forward through another day chock full of incredibly cool happenings. There’s a whole bunch of awesome shows to check out, so bust through some proverbial walls and take this mother to the limit this Tuesday at such shows at Odd Folks & The Roman Counterpart at Central Gallery, Bold Riley at the Cornish Bandstand, Beatlemania Magic at the Seaside Pavilion, Ben Kilcollins at The Porthole, Gregoire de la Costa at Blue, The Grumps at Portland Lobster Company, Ice Cold Zima at Portland House of Music, and much more!
Texas rock and rollers Odd Folks are bringing their tour to Bangor this evening for a show at Central Gallery. Machias-based alternative folk, rock, and funk band The Roman Counterpart will also be on the bill tonight as things get started up around 7 o’clock.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Local pop-rock and folk act the Dapper Gents Duo return to The Brunswick patio this afternoon for some good times and good tunes. This free party gets started at 1pm so be sure to swing through if you’re hanging out at the beach today.
Beatlemania Magic, a Beatles tribute band, will be recreating the magic of Beatlemania from their debut in 1964 on the Ed Sullivan Show to the experimental Sgt. Pepper era all the way through Abbey Road and the break-up of the band during a performance at the Seaside Pavilion in Old Orchard Beach tonight. Enjoy song selections from those four lads from Liverpool as this all ages show starts at 7pm.
Everybody’s favorite soul singing dude Lyle Divinsky is ready to lay down some smooth soul, cool funk and rapturous R&B during another free, all ages show out on the patio of Portland House of Music this evening. Lyle will be serenading you from 4pm to 7pm so be sure to stop through and enjoy some killer tunes in the summer sun.
Ben Kilcollins will be hanging out at The Porthole tonight for some acoustic singer-songwriter action. You might recognize Ben from his time spent pop-rockin’ with his band Kilcollins, but this evening he goes solo with some guitar-based, acoustic tunes starting right around 6 o’clock out on the deck.
Check out some fun pop-rock tunes courtesy of local act The Grumps as they play a free show out on the Portland Lobster Company deck this evening. These talented fellas will get the good times rollin’ during this all ages shindig starting at 6:30pm.
One Longfellow Square and the New England Celtic Arts present Makem & Spain live at OLS this evening. The act uses various instruments and precise three-part harmonies to create what many have described as a wall of sound. Makem and Spain are at their best onstage where their talent and enthusiasm draw in fans that have never experienced the joy of folk music before. Check them out for yourself as things get underway at 7pm.
Alex Smith and The Mountain Sound bring some country blues to the stage of Andy’s Old Port Pub this Tuesday evening. Join the band for some great tunes as this all-ages and free show starts up around 7pm.
Russell, a new act out of Portland that takes compositions from jazz and other musical genres on a live musical journey, will be playing some original songs as well as some tunes from Sonny Sharrock’s song collection are at Blue on Congress Street tonight. Join the band a they take to the stage right around 8 o’clock this Tuesday.
Rhythm & Tues, the Empire’s new summer music series, rolls on tonight with house band the Class Reunion. The band features a ton of talented local players performing a bunch of fun throwback funk, blues, and R&B covers. The party starts upstairs at 9 o’clock.
90’s cover band Ice Cold Zima will be rockin’ their regular Tuesday night gig at Portland House of Music and Events. Travel back to a time of JNCO jeans, bucket hats, and bowl cuts with some cover tunes of No Doubt, Fiona Apple, The Cardigans, 4 Non Blondes, Green Day, Lauryn Hill, Bonnie Raitt, Stone Temple Pilots, Alanis Morissette, and more as things get jumpin’ right around 9.
Another Open DJ Night is happening again at Flask Lounge. Starting at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open tables and all you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones! This event is absolutely free and always a good time, so go on and check it out.
Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port presents another acoustic Open Mic with member of local folk-pop act, The Dapper Gents, Jacob McCurdy. Jacob will be playing and emceeing at this free and fun Tuesday night party. Tonight he invites everyone on to the stage to show off their musical capabilities beginning at 9:30.
Local singer-songwriter Connor Garvey will be bringing his soulful acoustic folk-rock to his hometown of South Berwick for a performance at Spring Hill to raise funds the local library. Check out Connor and a few of his friends as they start making some music right around 7 during this all ages show.
Local acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is hosting another Open Mic at Sea Dog Brewing Company by the Maine Mall tonight. Starting at 8 musicians are welcome to play some tunes, or if you can’t play an instrument yourself you can sing with the fellas in Uke n’ Smile as they play the music for you. It’s free, fun, and yummy drinks and food are available as well, so if you’re in the area tonight, be sure to stop by and check things out.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
