Per usual, I’ve had Friday on my mind since Sunday night it seems, so I am quite enjoying this finally Friday feeling I’ve got going on. Welcome the weekend with some pop-rock tunes up at the Hollywood Casino in Bangor as the Timothy Paul Band takes the stage for a free show starting at 8 o’clock.
Local sax player, Kyle Hardy is joining forces with some other talented Portland musicians for a night of jazz at Elements: Books Coffee Beer in Biddeford tonight. Be sure to check out their free set starting right around 8 o’clock this evening.
The Blast Addicts kick off a two-night stint at Ramona’s in Bucksport tonight. Starting at 9 join these cool cats for a non-stop rock and roll dance party that’s guaranteed to get you moving out on the dance floor!
If you’re up in Hallowell this evening, make some plans to check out the dead ahead, high-energy, 4-piece, dance-your-butt-off rock and roll band known as The Worthy Bones. These dudes are ready to get you grooving with an energetic set that gets underway right around 9 over at the Kennebec Wharf.
The Scolded Dogs return to Easy Street Lounge in Hallowell tonight with their excellent blend of original songs as well as classic covers. Starting at 9:30 you can expect to hear some awesome originals as well as covers of such acts like Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more.
Portland folk pop duo Builder of the House will be playing a free show at Guthries tonight. Described as “a cross between Elliott Smith and Ray Davies,” their music consists of “great memorable tunes with super smart lyrics.” See them live as things get underway at 8 o’clock.
Local pop-rock cover act The Nikki Hunt Band will be bringing the party to the stage of Heritage Hall at the Franco Center in Lewiston tonight. Covering artists such as Sheryl Crow, Joan Jett, Bruce Springsteen, Sublime, No Doubt, The Doors, U2 and many more there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone. Tonight’s performance will also include a colorful hula hoop act so be sure to check it out starting at 8:30pm.
Brothers Cody and Clint Phipps will be bringing their acoustic country-rock act, Pitch Black Ribbons, up to the Bluebird Ranch in Machias this finally Friday. Tonight you can check the fellas out as they play a set for free beginning at 6.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Local jam band The Brewins present a musical tribute to the one and only Jerry Garcia tonight at Jimmy The Greek’s. Joining the band will be special guest Billy Billy. Get your Dead on as things get underway right around 8.
If you’ve been hitting the slopes all day and are looking to unwind up near Sunday River, then swing over to Sliders where Mitch Alden will be performing this evening. Mitch Aldren is the creative force behind alternative rock band Now is Now and performs a special solo set starting around 7 tonight.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach is geared up for an eventful Friday featuring dance pop cover act Tickle. Things get shaking at 8:30 with a super party mix of some of the best music from today as well as some classic retro funk that’s guaranteed to get you out on the dance floor.
Local pop-rock act The Still returns HOME (Portland House of Music and Events) tonight for another Happy Hour set that’ll start up at 4. Enjoy some good tunes, good times, and great drink specials with some great people during this free and fun event.
You can also enjoy your finally Friday Happy Hour with some tunes courtesy of local roots rocker Travis James Humphrey at Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland. Starting at 5, Travis will be plucking some strings and singing some things to get your weekend started off on the right note during this free and fun event.
Each March, as part of Women’s History Month, the Maine Academy of Modern Music hosts its annual Girls Rock! concert. The event is a celebration of girls’ involvement in music and showcases the talents of MAMM’s female students. Tonight’s shindig gets shaking at 6 o’clock at Port City Music Hall and will feature performances from MAMM acts Yard Sail, The Mean Faces, Kid, Chaotic Rotations, MYROCK, and more as well as a set from pop-rock act Amy & The Engine. Celebrate Girl Power tonight during this awesome all-ages show!
Local bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey will be warming things up at Blue this evening. Starting at 6 check out the act’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies accompanied by fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitars that create a unique version of bluegrass, old time, folk and original songs.
Get your Friday evening started off with some acoustic, light rock at Andy’s Old Port Pub in Portland as local musician Jeff Cusack plays a free set of songs beginning at 7.
Contemporary flamenco dancer, choreographer, teacher, creative writer, director of Bourassa Dance Studio and founder of Olas, Lindsey Bourassa will be joining forces with flamenco guitarist Gregoíre Pearce for an evening of music and dance at Acoustic Artisans tonight. This evening’s performance gets underway at 7.
If you’re downtown this evening, be sure to take in tonight’s performance by Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble at Blue on Congress Street. Starting at 8 the act will be performing an evening of music from the Middle East and Turkey on such unique and beautiful instruments as oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern micro-tonal zither), nay (ancient Middle Eastern reed flute), and Middle Eastern percussion.
Welcome the freakin’ weekend by busting a move out on the dance floor tonight at Flask Lounge in Portland. DJ Jamie O’Sullivan is back to host his monthly LOVE event which features some of the very best house, techno and disco to shake your can to. Things get shaking right around 9pm at this free dance party.
The Maine Dead Project returns to Portland House Of Music tonight to play some Grateful Dead tunes for all of you Dead Heads looking to get down this finally Friday. I do believe the band will actually be playing a historic Dead concert in its entirety so if you’re looking to get your noodle on make plans to be at PHOME starting at 9 o’clock.
Native Isles, which features a veritable who’s who of local musicians, will make their debut tonight down at Brian Boru in Portland. With Emma Stanley on vocals, trumpet/flugelhorn, Tyler Stanley on keys and vocals, Pete Morse on guitar and vocals, and Andy Robbins on drums tonight’s free 9:30pm performance is certain t make you dance.
The Evan King Group will be laying down some smooth jazz and funky soul this First Friday at Blue on Congress Street in Portland. Grab a drink and have some fun as the band gets started at 10 o’clock.
Tonight electro-pop rock act Dean Ford & The Keepsakes will be treating RiRa to a night of electrified pop, rock and dance music. This show is free and is guaranteed to be chock full of pulsating beats, infections hooks, screaming synths, shredding guitar, and soaring vocals as things get underway right around 10pm.
Get the party started with some modern country that’s got just a little bit of southern rock edge as Penny Less, which features former members of Bad Penny, performs at Mixers in Sabattus. Tonight’s free shindig gets shaking right around 8:30.
The Mallett Brothers Band brings their fiery, boot stomping country rock that’s mixed with just a little bit of Americana to the stage of The Landing at Pine Point this Friday evening. These good ol’ boys will be kicking out the jams beginning at 8 o’clock.
Local act Fender Bender will be rocking Thatcher’s in South Portland this Friday with their energetic blend of classic rock, blues, jazz, country and soul. The four-piece will take to the stage starting right around 7:30 at tonight’s free show.
The Swamp Brothers aka Putnam Smith, Steven Bacon, and Nate Spencer bring their three part harmonies and acoustic Americana instrumentation (guitar, banjo, mandolin) to the stage of the Eureka in Stockholm tonight. Join this trio of talented songwriters as they blend lyrical craft with a vintage sound for some music that’ll make your ears happy as this free show starts up at 7:30pm.
If you’re spending your Friday evening in Waterville, check out singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron as he plays a free show up at Silver Street Tavern. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 8 with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and more.
The Work Trucks will be making some noise at Mainely Brews in Waterville tonight. With a blend of rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, and roots rock, the act is guaranteed to please as they take the stage for tonight’s free show right around 9:30.
Holy hip hop, Batman! Tonight Cam Groves, Ock Cousteau, Peebs The Prophet, Words of Phrase, and Flowpez team up for a free show at Live 212 in Westbrook. I’m quite certain things might get a little crazy, so make sure you pack it in right around 8 o’clock so as to make sure ya don’t miss out!
