Mayo Street Arts welcomes Psychopomp tonight

One more day until the freakin’ weekend, babies. We’ve basically got this in the bag and it doesn’t hurt that this Thursday evening is guaranteed to be a good time. Kick things into high gear and check out all the cool stuff that’s happening all around town and beyond tonight including Dave Perlman at The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro, Scott Gagne & Cassidy Daniels at the Franco Center, Kafari at Bunker Brewing Company, The Cadillac Three at Aura, Barns Courtney at Port City Music Hall, Will Bradford at Blue, Bella’s Bartok at Portland House of Music, and much more.


Local artist Dave Perlman will be performing at The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro this evening. Join Dave for a wide array of covers and originals from many different genres during this free, all-ages acoustic show that’ll get underway at 6pm.


If you’re up in Camden this Thursday evening check out a free show filled with some smooth sounds as The Wayne DeLano Jazz Quartet performs at the Elm Street Grille starting at 6 o’clock.


Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile will be hosting another open mic event over at Local Buzz. All musicians of varying skills and genres are welcome to get up on the microphone and perform as things get underway right around 7:30pm.


Have some fun this thirsty Thursday at The Kennebec Wharf with the Pat Colwell Duo. Starting at 9 o’clock, this fun act will be bringing down the house with a masterful mix of Motown and Memphis soul that’s certain to get you working it out on the dance floor tonight.


Lewiston native Scotty Gagne returns to the Franco Center this evening alongside singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Cassidy Daniels. The duo, now based in Florida, will perform at 7:30pm. The doors and bar will open at 6 with an opening set by 15-year-old singer-songwriter, Brett Raio.


Local Pop-rock artist Alex Roy will be performing a set of original tunes and cover songs at Jimmy The Greek’s this Thirsty Thursday. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be a good time so swing through if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 7.


Check out some stellar sounds courtesy of local artist Kafari as he plays a fun show at Bunker Brewing Company tonight. Check out the multifarious jazz and funk sounds Kafari creates on his keyboard as this event starts up at 6pm.

The Shakes, a 7-piece funk, rock and reggae collective from Hallowell that features some of the scene’s most fun and funky players, will be performing live out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company tonight. This free all ages show starts up right around 6:30pm.

Mayo Street Arts welcomes Psychopomp to the stage this Thursday. Psychopomp is the unlikely intermixture of flamenco, 1970s-era MGM/Bradley cartoon music, punk, and 20th century classical. The Psychopomp experience is a musical variety show consisting of solo works for guitar and violin as well as music for two dobros. Tonight’s performance will begin at 7 o’clock.

Portland’s professional Klezmer band, The Casco Bay Tummlers, return to the stage of Blue this evening for a performance filled with traditional Eastern European Jewish compositions. Tonight’s show gets started right at 7pm.

MB Padfield brings her distinct fusion of pop, rock, blues, jazz and hip-hop back to Brian Boru tonight. Check out Padfield’s impressive guitar skills and smoky vocals as things get underway at 7:30 followed by dance songs spun by DJ Tiny Dancer.

One Longfellow Square welcomes Grammy-award winning guitarist, solo performer, recording artist, composer and arranger, Laurence Juber. Juber’s playing fuses folk, jazz, blues, pop and classical styles, creating a multi-faceted performance that belies the use of only one instrument. This evening’s event will get underway at 8pm.

Tonight Aura presents country act, The Cadillac Three. Raucous and energetic, The Cadillac Three fuses classic Southern rock with outlaw country sounds. Don’t miss your chance to see the Nashville trio light up the stage starting at 8 o’clock.

British singer-songwriter, Barns Courtney, who splits the difference between Ed Sheeran’s sensitivity and the big-footed stomp of early Mumford & Sons, will be bringing his moody, atmospheric jams to the stage of Port City Music Hall tonight for 18+ show that’ll get started up right around 9pm.

Vaudevillian folk punk powerhouse, Bella’s Bartok returns to the stage of Portland House of Music and Events tonight for a show that’ll start up at 9 o’clock.

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Will Bradford of local act SeepeopleS will be performing a special solo set tonight at Blue. Join Will as his set starts at 9 o’clock.

Jam out this Thirsty Thursday with A Band Beyond Description at Gritty’s in the Old Port tonight. Get your free Grateful Dead freak out on starting at 9pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
