Yessah, here we are half-way through another fun-filled week! I don’t know about you guys, but I am totally ready to hurdle the hump and make some serious strides towards the freakin’ weekend! If you’re looking to do some of the same, then here are some places to do just that this Wednesday evening. Check out tunes at such shows as Darlin’ Corey at Frontier, Happy Folk at Andy’s Old Port Pub, Lindsay Straw at Blue, Space Carnival at Flask Lounge, Pete Witham at The Frog and Turtle, Jeff Cusack at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and more.
Bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey will be performing at Frontier this evening as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge Wednesday night music series. Starting at 7:30 you can stop in and check out the pair’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitars that are used to make up some truly unique bluegrass, old timey and folk sounds. This show is all ages and free so be sure to make some plans to check it out.
Folk-rock outfit Rippleton Cross hosts another open mic at Cole Farms tonight. The pair will be performing some tunes as well as encouraging others to get up on the microphone for some musical merriment and creative fun as this free and all ages gathering gets started at 7pm.
Portland’s own feel-good collective Happy Folk will be bringing some jazz-rock jams to Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. Join this band of musical merrymakers for an evening of feel-good fun as things get started right around 7.
Folk singer-songwriter Lindsay Straw celebrates the release of her latest record, The Fairest Flower of Womankind at Blue tonight. Join Lindsay for an evening of song and story as things get underway at 7:30pm.
Tonight One Longfellow Square and SPACE Gallery present musician and artist Arto Lindsay. As a member of DNA, he contributed to the foundation of No Wave. Throughout Lindsay’s career he has collaborated with both visual and musical artists, including Vito Acconci, Laurie Anderson, Animal Collective, Matthew Barney, Caetano Veloso and Rirkrit Tiravanija. Tonight he’ll be joined by DC-based band, Beauty Pill and Portland’s own Greg Jamie as things get underway at OLS right around 8pm.
Local folk musician Dave Rowe will be playing another free show over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Join Rowe for some good times and good tunes as things start up right around 8 o’clock.
Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to the stage of RiRa tonight for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fellas for some musical revelry as this free show starts up around 9pm.
Check out a free show at Flask Lounge tonight with Space Carnival. Space Carnival blends high-energy disco, funk and progressive rock into an interplanetary performance that you can check out starting at 9 o’clock tonight.
The fellas in Hello Newman go unplugged tonight to bring you an acoustic set of all of your favorite 90’s jams at Crooners & Cocktails. This free and fun show will get swinging right around 9:30pm.
Check out a free show down at Champions tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey performs a bunch of barn burners for ya beginning at 9:30.
If you’re looking to play out tonight be sure to check out the open mic happening at BeBe’s Burritos and Cantina in Saco. This free and all ages musical gathering offers up a full PA for performers to use as well as the opportunity to score some future gigs. There will be great food and drink available while you perform for a welcoming audience in a fun atmosphere. This evening’s open mic begins at 6:30pm.
Local musician Jeff Cusack returns to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza tonight for a free set showcasing his acoustic, light rock tunes. This free and family-friendly event begins at 7pm.
Pete Witham returns to The Frog and Turtle in Westbrook for some fun Americana and rockabilly music this Wednesday. Pete will be joined by a rotating cast of characters as they bring the good times and good tunes to the stage for this free show, which will start at 7:30pm.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
