Peter Wolf returns to Portland for a show at Port City Music Hall


All right! The week rolls on and tonight means business. Suit up in those trusty Party Pants and get ready to get down to some sweet, lively sounds courtesy of Wednesday night! There’s a lot to see and do tonight including shows such as The Working Dead at Portland House of Music, Scolded Dogs at Portland Lobster Company, Gill Landry at One Longfellow Square, Rap Night at Asylum, Brooks Strause, Extravision, Dustin Saucier and Push/Shove at Flask Lounge, Open Mic with Dave Jacquet at Cole Farms and more!


Dos Canosos y el Joven will be bringing some Latin music to Frontier tonight as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge music series. Tonight’s event is free and all ages and will get underway at 7:30pm.


If you’re hanging in Gray tonight stop on by Cole Farms for this week’s Open Mic with local musician Dave Jacquet. It’s a free event, there’s tasty food and boozy drinks, and guaranteed to be a whole lot of fun, so check it out as things get started up at 7.


The Working Dead are back at Portland House of Music and Events this Wednesday. This trio of talented gentlemen will be serving up some Happy Hour jams during a free show that starts at 4:30pm. Check out the act’s fun covers of the Grateful Dead and as well as other classic jam band tunes.

Sam Shain and The Scolded Dogs will be bringing the party out onto the Portland Lobster Company deck for a free show that’ll feature the act’s mix of original songs and covers that include everything from Snoop Dogg, Johnny Cash, Parliament and many, many more. The good times start rollin’ around 6 o’clock, so grab some pals and enjoy the evening outside overlooking Casco Bay.

Blue’s Irish Concert Series continues with a featured performance from set Greg Boardman and Neil Pearlman. Music starts at 7:30 and will be followed by another Wednesday evening Irish Session open to any and all musicians looking to get up on stage and jam.

Over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port you can check out the Squid Jiggers who are back once again with some quality folk music for your earholes, which is perfectly paired with an ice cold beer this evening. The duo will be getting things going starting right around 8, so swing through and check ‘em out if you’re hanging around downtown tonight.

Rocker, roller and lead vocalist for the legendary J. Geils Band, Peter Wolf, returns to Portland for a show at Port City Music Hall tonight. Check out Peter and his band as they get the good times and tunes rollin’ right around 8 o’clock.

Check out the down-home, acoustic roots sounds of David Beam and the Custom House Gang at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland this Wednesday. This lively bunch will be playing some great music for your midweek wind down so swing through and enjoy this free show starting at 8.

Nashville-based Americana singer-songwriter and former member of Old Crow Medicine Show, Gill Landry will be performing at One Longfellow Square tonight. Things get underway at 8 o’clock.

Get your folk-pop on tonight with the Dapper Gents Duo as they return to the stage of RiRa for some musical merriment during a free, 21+ show that’ll get started up at 9pm.

Touring acts Brooks Strause and Extravision will be bringing their alt-folk sounds to a free show at Flask Lounge tonight. Rounding out this midweek musical party will be local indie rock artist Dustin Saucier and Portland electro-pop act Push/Shove. Things get underway right around 9.

Rap Night at Asylum in Portland will be highlighting some local hip-hop with another installment of their midweek party hosted by ill by instinct and El Shupacabra. Each and every Wednesday night these dudes team up to host this epic rap ruckus that features some of the best and brightest emcees, producers and DJs around. Things get started at 9 with early and late night open mic cyphers, and as always, ladies get in free, so stop through and check it out!


The Frog and Turtle in downtown Westbrook welcomes back local musician Tom Douglas to the stage for an evening of classic covers and original songs. Join Tom as this free, all-ages acoustic show starts up at 7:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
