Port City Music Hall welcomes The Jayhawks & Johnny Irion tonight

Tuesday is no slouch when it comes to partying so get out there and have some fun, and hey, before you know it it’ll be Wednesday and we’ll be one day closer to the freakin’ weekend! Check out some fun times and tunes at such shows as Korovyov, Color Hex & Mousatron at Empire, Big World at Blue, Travis James Humphrey at Gritty’s, an open mic with Uke n’ Smile at Sea Dog Brewing Company, and more.


Local singer-songwriter Kate Schrock will be playing at Blue this evening. Schrock has shared the stage with artists such as Taj Mahal, Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, Wayne Kramer of MC5, The Bodeans, Stephen Stills, and more. Check out her solo performance as things get underway at 6 tonight.

Carol Reese and the Dirty Dollhouse will be playing some pop, folk and country tunes during a free and all-ages show at Andy’s Old Port Pub. The musical merriment will begin at 7pm.

Big World, a Portland band which focuses on taking compositions from jazz and other musical genres to explore the musical form through improvisation, will be playing a show this evening at Blue. Beginning at 8 the act will be performing both original compositions as well as their interpretations of songs by such artists as Sonny Sharrock, James Brown, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and more.

Tonight One Longfellow Square hosts Songs Beyond Borders. This songwriter’s circle brings together acclaimed artists from Maine and Maritime Canada. The event gets underway at 8pm and will featured performers Denny Breau, Heather Pierson, Ian Sherwood and Ashley Condon.

Port City Music Hall presents alt-country act The Jayhawks. The Jayhawks bring their melancholic songwriting, impeccable musicianship, lush sound, and sweet harmonies to the stage alongside opener Johnny Irion as this 18+ show starts up at 8 o’clock.

Another Open Decks Night is happening at Flask Lounge tonight. Beginning at 9 you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open tables and all you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones.

Take in some roots rock tunes as local musician Travis James Humphrey plays a free show at Gritty’s. Let the good times roll this Tuesday as things get swinging right around 9 o’clock.

Empire’s Three for 3 music series—where you get to see three awesome bands for just $3—rolls on this Tuesday evening. Check out sets from Korovyov, Color Hex, and Mousatron starting at 9pm.


Local acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is back at Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland for another free, all-ages open mic event. All genres of music, musicians of varying skills, capabilities, and ages are welcome to join in on the fun as the music starts at 8pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
