This has been an exceptionally weird week already and since it’s only Wednesday I suggest that we all join forces and get wickedly weird together as we hurdle this hump. Here’s what’s the what for your Wednesday, which includes such shows as Aeterna Trio at Frontier, Two Door Cinema Club & Circa Waves at State Theatre, Mountain Emergency at Andy’s, Son Little with Doe Paoro at One Longfellow Square, Acoustic Punk Night at Flask Lounge, Jenny Jumpstart at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and more.
Roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns to Champions tonight for another free, solo set that’ll start up right around 9:30 this evening.
Aeterna Trio, an original, classical crossover act, will be performing as part of Frontier in Brunswick’s Live in the Lounge free music series this Wednesday evening. The trio will present a full evening of classical and modern tunes like you’ve never heard before starting at 7:30.
It’s fair season in Maine and this evening acoustic Americana act Double Entendre will be playing at the Oxford County Fair. This talented duo will start up an early evening set right around 4:30pm at the fair.
Make your way down to Commercial Street tonight as Captain Ray and the Castaways will keep you dancing out on the deck of Portland Lobster Company with some fun rock and roll cover tunes. This free and all-ages party gets underway at 6:30 tonight.
Get your Wednesday underway with lots of stringed things, foot stomping, and good times as Andy’s Old Port Pub welcomes back Mountain Emergency for an evening filled with bluegrass music. This free event is all ages and gets underway right around 7 o’clock.
Blue’s Irish Concert Series continues with a featured performance by Boston-based fiddle phenom Katie McNally and Portland’s own guitar extraordinaire Bethany Waickman. Music starts at 7:30 and will be followed by another Wednesday evening Irish Session open to any and all musicians looking to get up on stage and jam.
Northern Ireland indie rock trio Two Door Cinema Club brings their guitar-driven hooks and electro-rock to the stage of the State Theatre tonight. Strokes-esque Liverpudlian indie rock n’ rollers Circa Waves will start off the show with an opening set that gets underway at 8.
Punk rock n’ rollers The Menzingers bring their ska-punk party to the stage of Port City Music Hall tonight for an all-ages show that’ll also feature pop-punk/melodic hardcore outfit The Movielife and MakeWar. Things get underway right around 8 o’clock.
Tonight One Longfellow Square will host the potent and deeply personal soul and R&B sounds of Roots and Rjd2 collaborator Aaron Livingston aka Son Little. Soulful, electro-pop singer/songwriter Doe Paoro starts things off this evening with a set that will begin at 8.
Maine-based folk musician Dave Rowe is back at Bull Feeney’s tonight. Join Rowe for some good times and good tunes as this free show begins at 8pm.
Check out some good tunes and good vibes going down at Portland House of Music and Events tonight as The Maine Dead Project returns to the stage as part of their summer residency. These talented locals will be taking on the tunes of the Grateful Dead as this groovy gathering gets underway right around 9 o’clock.
Get your folk-pop on tonight with a free show from the Dapper Gents Duo as they return to the stage of RiRa for a free show that’ll get underway at 9 o’clock.
Crooners & Cocktails welcomes back Hello Clarice as the local duo brings some fun tunes to your Wednesday night. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice. The pair will be playing everything from Sinatra to Ocean — Billy Ocean that is. Things get underway during this free show right around 9:30pm.
Portland-based, alt-Americana artist Jenny Jumpstart will be playing a free show at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza tonight. This all-ages shindig gets swinging at 7 o’clock.
The Frog and Turtle welcomes back local musician Tom Douglas for an evening of acoustic classic covers and original songs. Join Tom as this free and all-ages show starts up at 7:30pm.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
