Get your Friday evening rocking and/or rolling with a great set of acoustic songs courtesy of local artist Ed Tierney as he returns to the Fire House Grille in Auburn for another free all-ages show that’ll start up at 7:30pm tonight.

Central Maine band, Skosh brings their badass blend of funk, rock and ska up to Gritty’s in Auburn tonight for a party that’s guaranteed to be a whole lotta fun. Join the fellas for this free show that’ll get cranking right around 8 o’clock.


If you’re looking for some high-energy rockabilly in Bangor this Friday evening Davidson County Line has gotcha covered as they play a free show up at Hollywood Casino beginning at 8 o’clock.

Central Maine rock cover band Dakota will be bringing the thunder to the stage of the Penobscot Pour House as they play songs from such acts as Bon Jovi, Shinedown, Bush, Aerosmith, Journey, Nickelback, Theory of a Deadman, and more beginning at 8pm.


Elements on Main Street in Biddeford welcomes acoustic folk rock artist Ric Roy for a free all-ages show that’s slated to get underway right around 8 tonight.


The Daniel Inn Coast Bar + Bistro welcomes back local folk-rocker Brian Patricks. Patricks intertwines finger-style, rhythmic guitar with a hint of harmonica into his sets of originals and covers that span the folk, blues, roots and rock genres. Check out Patricks’ solo set as this free all-ages show begins at 7.


The Crown Vics bring their full-tilt rockabilly show to the newly restored Columbia Falls Union Hall tonight. Get ready to rock and roll as things get underway at tonight’s free show starting right around 7pm.


Octavia will be bringing some classic and modern rock to Chummies in Ellsworth this finally Friday. Join this rockin’ band for some fun times as this free show gets underway at 9. 


The Kevin Midgley Players return to Gritty’s with some Americana and Delta blues. Join them for some good times, good tunes, and good brews as this free show starts up at 8.


Black Cat Road is back at the Tailgate Bar & Grill in Gray tonight. The act will be lighting up the stage with their funky, soulful and rootsty blues tunes as tonight’s free event gets underway right around 8 o’clock.


Some super duper country tunes will be twanging away tonight at The Kennebec Wharf as The Cowboy Angels saddle up to play you the best classic country covers all night long. Crooning, toe tapping, and twang starts at 9.

Make your way into the freakin’ weekend with one heck of a party at the Easy Street Lounge tonight epic jam band Hambone brings you some musical merriment. Beginning at 9:30 you can check out Hambone as they bring some soulful, energetic jams to the stage all night long.


Beginning at 8 up at Train’s Tavern in Lebanon you can check out some classic rock covers with a little bit of southern rock thrown in as well from New Hampshire band Rosie.


Greg Jamie of high-energy Appalachian gospel act O’Death will be performing solo tonight alongside alt-country artist Wes Hartley and one of my favorite named bands ever Roy Orbitussin up at Guthries in Lewiston tonight. This free, all-ages show will get underway right around 8.


If you’re kicking in the Naples region this Friday night be sure to check out some fun rock and/or roll courtesy of local act The Grumps at Bray’s Brew Pub. These guys will get the good times rollin’ right around 9:30.


Portland party band The GE3ks will be bringing the good times to Jimmy The Greek’s tonight. Starting at 9 get ready to bust a move to some of the best 80’s pop, dance, New Wave, hard rock, rap and one hit wonder tunes around.


Local pop-rock outfit The Still is back at Portland House of Music and Events for another Happy Hour set that’ll get started up around 4. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy some good tunes and great drink specials with some talented musicians during this fun and free event.

Singer-songwriter Tim Shannon will be playing an acoustic show at Blue this Friday evening. Join Shannon for an evening of original compositions as music begins right around 6pm. 

Acoustic Artisans welcome instrumental act Satori this Friday evening. The band will be performing a mix of original compositions and interpretations of rock and jazz-rock classics from Jeff Beck, Alphonse Mouzon, Eric Johnson, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, David Grissom, Steve Khan, Bill Frisell, Deep Purple and others beginning at 7pm.

Acoustic alternative artist John Hasnip will be bringing some musical merriment to Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. Beginning at 7 o’clock John will be playing some fun tunes for you to bust a move or two to this finally Friday evening.

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and 2015 Maine Songwriters’ Association songwriting contest winner, Jenny Van West will be bringing her roots country, blues and gospel tunes to the Local Sprouts tonight. Starting at 7 enjoy songs that are reminiscent to such artists as Alison Krauss and Emmy Lou Harris as Van West plays this free all-ages show.

MJ’s Wine Bar welcomes back Portland piano man Mike Maurice to their swanky lounge-area for a Friday evening of funk, soul and jazz sounds. Join Mike and imbibe in some delicious vino as things get underway at 8.

The King of Maine aka Spose returns from tour tonight to set things off with an all-ages show at Portland House of Music and Events. Dude knows how to put on a heck of a show and work a crowd with his witty lyricism paired with some sick beats. Check him and alongside Shane Reis, God.Damn.Chan. and more as they bring the party to the stage with some Maine-made hip-hop starting right around 8 o’clock tonight.

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and finger-style guitar player Zak Trojano returns to the stage of Blue this evening for an acoustic show. Beginning at 8 take in Trojano songs and stories in a quaint and intimate setting located right in downtown Portland.

The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland presents local act, The Waiters who will be serving up some quality tunes for you to ease into the weekend with. The Waiters will be dishing out all of your favorite cover songs at this free gig that gets started at 8 o’clock.

Salvage BBQ welcome back local act Jerks of Grass for another fun Friday of toe-tapping bluegrass tunes. This free shindig gets shaking at 8:30.

Alt-rock trio Walkenhorse return to rock RiRa tonight. Things get underway at 9:30 during this free show that should be a whole helluva lot of fun, so check it out.

Yo, lots of dope rap will be happening upstairs at the Empire as they present Happy Holidaze a show that’ll feature sets from local hip-hop heavies Wisdom, Phantom Blade, ill by instinct, Ben Shorr, DJ KTF and El Shupacabra. Things get poppin’ off right around 9:30 tonight so be sure to swing through with a crew and check it out.   

Blue welcomes back local funk quintet Canned Bread for some innovative sounds that blend elements of jazz, reggae, hip hop, and soul music together. Music starts at 10 o’clock.


Acoustic duo October Road returns to The Kerrymen Pub tonight for a free and fun show that’ll get your weekend started out on a high note. Beginning at 7 stop on by and check out the duo’s set of Americana and folk rock tunes.


Over at Thatcher’s in South Portland check out The Substitutes as they bring you the best in old school pop and rock with everything from The Beatles to The Who, The Monkees and more. Even better, this evening’s show is absolutely free, so if you’re looking to wind down your work week with some good ol’ fashioned rock n’ roll, swing on by and check ‘em out beginning at 8:30.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
