Portland House of Music presents The London Souls with Midwestern Medicine & When Particles Collide

It’s been one helluva week and I’m so ready to hoist up my Party Pants and welcome the weekend in style. If you’re picking up what I’m laying down, here are some seriously fun haps to hang out at tonight including Todd Rundgren at Aura, Scolded Dogs at The Liberal Cup, Ron Bergeron at Sea40, The Joint Chiefs at Portland Lobster Company, The English Muffins, Gash & Buzzy at Geno’s, Northwood at Blue, Caroline Spence & Connor Garvey at One Longfellow Square, Royal Hammer at The Proper Pig’s Reggae Fest, and more!

The Scolded Dogs will be bringing the party to The Liberal Cup tonight. These fellas will be making some noise playing some original tunes as well as covers of Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more as things get swinging at 7.

Have some fun this thirsty Thursday at The Kennebec Wharf with Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations. Starting at 9 o’clock, this fun act will be bringing down the house with a masterful mix of Motown and Memphis soul that’s certain to get you working it out on the dance floor tonight.

The Potato Pickers return to Andy’s Old Port Pub with some fun bluegrass sounds during a free and all-ages show that starts at 7 o’clock.

Local alternative folk act Northwood is back at Blue for some foot-stomping good times. Northwood starts making some noise right around 7 o’clock so make some plans to check ‘em out if you’re downtown tonight.

MB Padfield brings her distinct fusion of pop, rock, blues, jazz and hip-hop elements to Brian Boru tonight. Check out Padfield’s guitar skills and smoky vocals as things get underway at 7:30 with some songs spun by DJ Tiny Dancer.

Holy moly, I have been giddy with excitement over tonight’s show at Aura before it was even publicly announced when the folks over at the venue had myself and some other media-types take a tour of the spot before it’s grand re-opening. A list of upcoming shows was presented to the group of us and I pretty much flipped my sh*t then and there. Todd Rundgren is an eclectically accomplished musician and studio virtuoso who can create the sweetest pop to the densest art rock, and then have the cajones to put both extremes on the same album. I love him and seriously cannot wait to see him perform live tonight. I’m not gonna tell you what to do, but if you’re into seeing a seasoned and seriously talented singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist do his thing, and do his thing well, then you’ll show up tonight at 8 o’clock.

Charlottesville-based singer-songwriter, Caroline Spence brings her heartfelt Americana songs to the stage of One Longfellow Square this Thursday evening. Portland’s own Connor Garvey will start the evening with his brand of acoustic folk-rock blended with a touch of soul as music begins this evening at 8pm.

One of my favorite modern rock n’ roll acts returns to Portland tonight to play an energetic show at Portland House of Music and Events. Don’t miss The London Souls, who’ve toured with everyone from Tedeschi Trucks Band to the Black Crowes to The Who (the friggin’ WHO, you guys), as they rage out some old school rock n’ roll on stage alongside local rock acts Midwestern Medicine and When Particles Collide. The party starts right around 8 tonight, so be sure to swing through and check things out.

Tonight Blue on Congress Street welcomes local act Zapion as they present some classic belly dance music from the Turkish, Arab and Armenian traditions. Tonight Zapion will be joined by Adira, a dancer from New England’s thriving belly dance community, as things get underway at 9pm.

Don’t miss a super fun night of punk rock and roll over at Geno’s tonight as The English Muffins, Gash and Buzzy join musical forces for some sweet Thursday night tuneage starting at 9 o’clock.

Jam out this Thirsty Thursday with A Band Beyond Description at Gritty’s in the Old Port tonight. Get your free Grateful Dead freak out on starting at 9pm.

Ben Kilcollins & The Vargas Twins will be hanging out at RiRa again for some sweet, acoustic action. You know Ben from his time spent pop-rockin’ as the frontman of the band Kilcollins, but this evening he teams up with the talented Vargas Twins for some fun cover tunes and originals starting right around 9.

Celebrate spring with some free reggae music in Camden Green Pocket Park, located between The Proper Pig’s patio and Camden National Bank in Hallowell, during Reggae Fest. This evening local reggae act Royal Hammer will be bringing some joyous sounds to your Thursday night as this free and all ages event gets underway at 4pm.

Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza welcomes Pat Foley for some acoustic country-rock. If you’re in the area tonight make some plans to drop by as the music starts up at 7.
