Portland Lobster Company welcomes back Ryan Halliburton and The Still tonight

All right, time to put those Party Pants to good use by checking out all of the haps this Tuesday evening! Tunes to take in include The Woodshed Mystics at Bayside Bowl, Frank Fotusky at Blue, an open mic with Uke n’ Smile at Sea Dog Brewing Company, Three for 3 at Empire with Max tribe, Jakals & The Modern Dog, Tom Rainey Trio at SPACE Gallery, and more. Here we go!


The Woodshed Mystics will be performing a free show up on the rooftop deck of Bayside Bowl as part of their Sunset Music on the Roof series.  Beginning at 6 you can check out the band’s upbeat roots and acoustic tunes that span such genres as folk, soft rock and adult alternative. Anticipate lots of harmonies, a hint of reggae, some calypso and maybe even a bit of bluegrass during this fun, outdoor shindig.

Enjoy an evening of acoustic blues, guitar rags and original compositions performed on both 6 and 12-string guitar as Frank Fotusky returns to Blue tonight for a show that’ll start up right around 6:30pm.

Check out a free show at Gritty’s tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a set starting up at 7.

Another free and all ages show happens at Andy’s Old Port Pub as they welcome back local singer-songwriter Ronda Dale to the stage for an acoustic performance that will begin at 7pm.

After more than 30 years as one of the mostly highly-regarded drummers in NYC’s contemporary jazz and creative-music scene, Tom Rainey returns to Portland with his first band as a leader, accompanied by guitarist Mary Halvorson and saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock for a show at SPACE Gallery. Starting things off tonight will be the improv-focused trio of trumpet player and former-Halvorson-bandmate Brett DeSchenes, bassist and Dirty Projectors member Nat Baldwin, and drummer Peter McLaughlin. Tonight’s all-ages performance begins at 7:30pm.

Check out some tunes by Portland’s Brazilian choro ensemble, Choro Louco, as they play a show at Blue this evening. Choro Louco features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam. Tonight’s performance begins at 8:30pm.

Flask Lounge in Portland presents another open mic for DJs with their free dance party, which allows up and coming record spinners to take a chance and get up on the tables during the event. All you need to bring are your records, CDs and controller. All formats of music are welcome as the party starts right around 9 o’clock, so check it out.

Check out this week’s Three For 3 at Empire featuring the cool tunes of Max Tribe, Jakals and The Modern Dog. This shindig get shaking upstairs at 9 o’clock.


Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile returns to Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland tonight for another open mic event. All artists of different skills, genres, and ages are welcome to get up on the microphone as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 8pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
