Awww yeah! It is FINALLY Friday! I am absolutely ready to get DOWN tonight and I hope you all are too. If you’re looking for a little thunder from down under to kick off your holiday weekend then make some plans to rock and roll at the Sapphire Nightclub in Auburn tonight with AC/DC cover act Back in Black. All things Ace Deece will start happening during this 21+ show right around 6 o’clock.


The Allison Ames Band will be bringing some irresistible dance tunes to the stage of the Hollywood Casino tonight as they serve up classic rock covers during a free 21+ event that gets underway right around 8.

If you find yourself Fridaying up in the Central Maine area get on over to The Nocturnem Draft Haus in Bangor as they present another fine evening of jazz tunes and musical merriment with local act The Bill Barnes Trio. This free 21+ shindig gets swingin’ at 8 o’clock.


The Patio, an organization dedicated to finding, promoting, and booking new talented, local artists, will be presenting a variety of act during the Bath Heritage Days this weekend with a kick-off concert featuring the pop-rock sounds of local bands bands John Hughes Radio and The Band Apollo. Things get underway on the waterfront right around 6 o’clock.


Some serious getting down will be happening at Elements on Main Street this evening as they welcome jazz, funk and fusion act Sassquatch for some serious Friday fun. Get into the groove as things get fun and funky during this free all ages show starting up at 8pm.


Take in a fine evening of music and stories from folk icon John McCutcheon tonight as performs at the Boothbay Opera House. McCutcheon’s set starts at 7:30pm.


The Daniel Inn Coast Bar + Bistro welcomes back local folk-rocker Brian Patricks. Patricks intertwines finger-style, rhythmic guitar with a hint of harmonica into his sets of originals and covers that span the folk, blues, roots and rock genres. Check out Patricks’ solo set as this free all-ages show begins at 7.


 Swampy roots rock act the Eric Green Party will be performing at Chummies in Ellsworth tonight. This free Friday night party gets underway at 9:30.


Hanging in Hallowell? Then check out the dead ahead, high-energy, 4-piece, dance-your-butt-off rock and roll band The Worthy Bones as they return to the Kennebec Wharf tonight for a free show that gets jumpin’ right around 9.

The Scolded Dogs are back to make some noise at the Easy Street Lounge tonight as they bring some more party-rockin’ tunes to the stage for another free show. Starting at 9:30 you can expect to hear some awesome originals as well as covers of such acts as Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more.


Rising singer/songwriter Lauren Crosby will be bringing her  blues-infused folk tunes to the stage of Guthries tonight. If you’re hanging around the Lewiston area this Friday, be sure to swing through and take in this free, live show as music starts at 8 o’clock.

Solo pianist and vocalist Josh Hatfield will be performing at Pedro O’Hara’s tonight. Beginning at 8 Hatfield will be playing classics from Billy Joel to the Zac Brown Band and many more; there is sure to be something that everyone will enjoy during this free all-ages shindig.


Start off your Fourth of July Weekend with some solid blues, rock and funk sounds courtesy of Groove St. as they bring the party to The Blue Ox in Millinocket tonight. This free show gets swinging right around 9pm.


Crowd favorites Kilcollins will be pop-rockin’ and rollin’ at The Brunswick in OOB this afternoon. This troupe of talented dudes will be serving up some serious good times with their own original songs as well as anthemic cover tunes from 1p to 5p this Friday.

Four-piece rock n’ roll band Riot Act will be supplying some party tunes for your finally Friday with a free show at Mr. Goodbar in Old Orchard Beach. Things get cranking’ around 7pm.

Head out to The Dunegrass Country Club in Old Orchard where Andi Fawcett will be getting the party started right around 7:30 this finally Friday. Andi will be bringing you some of the best original pop-rock tunes around, so grab some pals, a beverage, and a spot to enjoy some live, local music for free this evening.

The Brunswick is geared up for an eventful finally Friday featuring dance-pop cover act Tickle. Things get shaking at 8:30pm with a super party mix of some of the best music from today as well as some classic retro funk that’s guaranteed to get you grooving.

If you’re rockin’ it in Old Orchard Beach for the holiday weekend the make some plans to get out to the Pier Patio Pub for the Souled Out Show Band. Starting at 9 this fun band will be filling your evening with tons of danceable funk, rock and soul covers.


Don’t think you can play an instrument? You might find yourself thinking differently if you get the chance to check out today’s Casco Bay Uke Fest at St. Luke’s Cathedral in Portland. Music lovers of all skill levels can take lessons, participate in an open mic and then watch, as well as play along, during a free show. This all ages event starts at 2pm is absolutely free!

Take in some roots rock tunes this finally Friday as local musician Travis James Humphrey plays a free Happy Hour set over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille. Let the good times roll as things get swinging right around 5 o’clock.

Check out this evening’s gathering at Portland House of Music and Events called Take Back Home. Hosted by local band SeepeopleS, the event is a benefit for Hope Acts, a local non-profit which works tirelessly for both Portland’s immigrant and recovering addict populations. Things get underway at 5pm and will feature performances by SeepeopleS, Anarkitty, Sea Level, Viva & The Reinforcements, Renee Coolbrith, Hannah Daman & The Martelle Sisters, Clara Junken, Joel Thetford, Akela Moon, Giant Knife and more. Tell your friends and dance the night away for a truly great cause as tickets are only $10 and there will be food provided by Salvage BBQ! There will also be a raffle happening for prizes which include 2 tickets to the NH Hemp Festival, a Radiohead After-Show with SeepeopleS in NYC, which includes a ride to and from the city with the band, as well as gift certificates from many local establishments such as Silly’s, Empire, and a host of others. Do good and have some fun at this inspiring and awesome event organized to help out little seaside city and the people who live within it.

Bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey is back at Blue tonight. Beginning at 6, you can stop by and check out the pair’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitars that are used to make up some truly unique bluegrass, old timey, and folk sounds.

The Pat Foley Band will be bringing some acoustic country rock to The Porthole tonight. Join the band for some Friday fun out on the deck as things get swinging at 7.

Mellow your mind with some stellar jams out on the Portland Lobster Company deck during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 7.

 If you’re downtown this evening doing the First Friday thing, be sure to take in tonight’s performance by Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble at Blue on Congress Street. Starting at 8 the act will be performing music from the Middle East and Turkey on such unique and beautiful instruments as oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern micro-tonal zither), nay (ancient Middle Eastern reed flute), and Middle Eastern percussion.

Don’t forget that starting right around 8:30 you can check out some tasty eats and equally tasty tunes at Salvage BBQ on Congress Street as Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies return to take over the joint with their own brand of unique, entertaining, and rollick rockabilly and Americana.

Tonight electro-pop rock act Dean Ford & The Keepsakes will be treating the Oasis patio to a night of electrified pop, rock and dance music. This show is free and is guaranteed to be chock full of pulsating beats, infections hooks, screaming synths, shredding guitar, and soaring vocals as things get underway right around 9pm.

It’s common knowledge that Fridays are a perfect time to shake your moneymaker so you might as well do just that by getting down to Flask Lounge in Portland where DJ Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE event. LOVE features O’Sullivan bringing you the best house, techno and disco to shake your can to. You can check out this free dance party starting right around 9.

If you’re downtown tonight and looking to (punk) rock it on out, be sure to check out tonight’s show  at Geno’s Rock Club featuring the cool tunes Ray’s Occult, A Minor Revolution and Lost Love. This finally Friday shindig is guaranteed to properly propel you into the weekend starting at at 9.

Gretchen & The Pickpockets will be bringing some jazz, soul and rock and roll to the stage of Brian Boru this finally Friday. Join the band for a free, fun show as things get underway upstairs right around 9:30.

Rising, NYC-based R&B singer Jessy Dorsett will be at Blue this evening. Starting at 10 pop in and check out her exciting tunes that draw influences R&B, soul, pop, blues and more.

Alt-rock trio Walkenhorse returns to rock RiRa tonight. Things get underway at 10 during this free show that should be a whole helluva lot of fun, so check it out if you’re Fridaying downtown!


Local duo October Road will be performing at The Kerrymen Pub tonight. Beginning at 6, check out the pair’s set of Americana and folk-rock tunes during this free and fun show.


Over in South Portland one and all are invited to welcome the weekend with Lincoln Continental at RJ’s Pub. The band will be playing tons of awesome dance tunes to keep you going on the dance floor starting at 8 o’clock.


If you’re spending your Friday in Waterville, check out singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron as he plays a free show up at Silver Street Tavern.  Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 8 with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and more.

Get the weekend underway with Grateful Dead jam band August West and Friends as they bring the good vibes to Mainely Brews in Waterville tonight. This free party will begin at 9:30pm.


The Frog and Turtle in Westbrook welcomes back local act The Groove Kings tonight as they return to bring some soul, funk and rhythm & blues to the stage with special guest vocalist Kenya Hall. Join the band for some free, all-ages fun as the music starts at 8:30pm.

Holly Nunan

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
