Organ-based trio Micromasse will be performing at the Standard Gastropub in Bridgton tonight as part of the pub’s summer music series. This free show will feature the melodic and mesmerizing sounds of musicians Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas as the three combine guitar, drums and organ to create some superior instrumental jams starting right around 5 o’clock.
Uke n’ Smile returns to the Local Buzz this evening for another open mic. All musicians of different skills and genres are welcome as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 7:30.
Nick Perry’s Brass Tax will rocking and/or rolling at The Liberal Cup in Hallowell tonight. This fun four-piece will be bringing you some catchy originals as well as fun cover tunes as this free show starts up at 7pm.
Asheville, North Carolina folk quartet, River Whyless brings a dose of folk-rock to the stage of Jonathan’s in Ogunquit tonight. Check out the act’s artful approach to songwriting and arrangements as their show begins at 8 o’clock.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Sparks The Rescue front man Alex Roy goes solo and acoustic tonight for a show at Jimmy The Greek’s. Beginning at 7 you can stop through and check out some of Roy’s pop-rock jams as he plays a free set of songs this evening.
Local four-piece rock n’ roll band, Riot Act will go quiet tonight for an acoustic set at The Porthole. Tonight’s free show gets started out on the deck right around 6 o’clock.
Take in some tunes out on the Portland Lobster Company deck as local rock and roll act, The Joint Chiefs bring some fun to your Thursday evening. Starting at 6:30 these fellas will get the good times rollin’ with a set of high-energy and big fun cover songs during this free and all-ages event.
Andy’s Old Port Pub welcomes back local, contemporary bluegrass band Cumberland Crossing for an early evening of bustling bluegrass music. Tonight’s free, all-ages show gets kickin’ at 7 o’clock.
Blending honest poetry and humor Mousa (aka Aleric ‘Vince’ Nez) blazes trails for the post emo-core genre. Performing stunningly bold yet simple songs that remind us of the epic beauty in non-epic things. See him at Blue tonight as he hits the stage starting at 7pm.
MB Padfield brings her fun fusion of pop, rock, blues, jazz and hip-hop elements back to Brian Boru tonight. Check out Padfield’s impressive guitar skills and smoky vocals as things get underway at 7:30 followed by dance songs spun by DJ Tiny Dancer.
Portland based musician Seth Warner will lead an all-star band in a complete, live performance of Jackson Browne’s 1977 record, Running on Empty at St. Lawrence Arts Center this evening. Warner’s performances have been described as “ethereal” by the Portland Press Herald and he has appeared on stages as diverse as The Boston Early Music Festival, WGBH radio, a cruise on the Rhine river in Germany, and at Joe’s Pub in New York City. Most recently Seth has been touring his Highway Kind: A celebration of the songs of Townes Van Zandt, the late, great Texas songwriter. Tonight he is joined by guitarist Mike Derosier, bassist Paul Thibeault, drummer Chris Marro and singer, Susanne Gerry to bring the songs of JB’s seminal album to life starting at 7:30pm.
The Portland Jazz Orchestra returns to One Longfellow Square tonight. This 18-piece jazz ensemble performs a variety of traditional and contemporary big band literature. The PJO plays works written by members such as Craig Skeffington, Willie Johnson, Chris Humphrey and Terry White in addition to literature composed by a variety of jazz artists including Tom Kubis, Matt Harris, Bob Mintzer, Bill Holman and Maria Schneider. Music starts up at 8pm.
Aura presents American heavy metal band, RATT with special guests The Cringe and Red Sky Mary. Best known for hit singles such as “Round and Round” and “Lay It Down”, tracks that ranked on Billboard’s top 40, RATT has been recognized as instrumental in the formation of the early 1980s glam metal scene. See ’em live as things get underway at 8 o’clock.
There’s going to be one helluva heavy party at Geno’s tonight with three awesome bands joining forces for some Thursday night thunder. Starting at 9, check out some original songs by rock acts, Ossalot, All Night, and Giant Knife. Swing through, enjoy some tunes, and rock it out tonight.
Get your noodle on and jam out this Thirsty Thursday with A Band Beyond Description as they return to Gritty’s in the Old Port tonight for a free show featuring all of your favorite Grateful Dead tunes. Tonight’s party gets underway at 9 o’clock.
Ben Kilcollins & The Vargas Twins are back at RiRa tonight for some sweet, acoustic sounds. You know Ben from his time spent fronting local pop-rock act, Kilcollins, but this evening he teams up with the talented Vargas Twins for some fun cover tunes and original songs starting right around 9.
Tonight Blue on Congress Street welcomes local act Zapion as they present some classic belly dance music from the Turkish, Arab and Armenian traditions. Tonight Zapion will be joined by Sahar, a dancer from New England’s thriving belly dance community, as things get underway at 9pm.
Toby McAllister of local pop-rock band Sparks The Rescue will be performing a solo, acoustic set at Easy Day tonight. Starting at 6pm Toby will be performing some of his favorite STR originals as well as some covers of popular tunes from the past 20 plus years.
Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza welcomes back Pat Foley for some acoustic country-rock. If you’re in the area tonight make some plans to drop by as the music starts up at 7.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
