AUBURN

If you’re up in the Auburn area tonight check out an acoustic set from local singer-songwriter Andy Penk as he plays a free show at the Fire House Grille starting at 7:30pm.

Check out some fun pop-rock tunes courtesy of local act The Grumps as they play a free show up at Gritty’s in Auburn this finally Friday. These gents will get the good times rollin’ right around 8.

AUGUSTA

If you find yourself north of Portland this evening, folk-rocker Brian Patricks will be playing a handful of original tunes and classic covers at Charlamagne’s in Augusta. Patricks begins his set right around 7pm.

BANGOR

The Crown Vics are ready to throw down a non-stop rockabilly dance party up at Hollywood Casino this finally Friday. If you’re looking to bust a move and have some fun check out tonight’s show as things get underway at 8.

If you’re up in Central Maine, and looking to have your skull rattled a bit, make some plans to take in some live, local, and loud rock at the Union Street Brick Church in Bangor tonight. Starting at 8 you can check out sets from Enlightened Strangelink, Dark Rain and 13 High.

Catch some classic and modern rock covers from the Jim Brown Band as the band kicks off their two-night stint at the Penobscot Pour House right around 8 o’clock.

BIDDEFORD

Local organ-based trio Micromasse will be playing live at Elements in Biddeford as part of the venue’s free Friday night music series. Check out the melodic and mesmerizing sounds of Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas as the three combine guitar, drums and organ to pump out some superior instrumental jams starting at 8.

BRUNSWICK

Acoustic alternative artist John Hasnip will be bringing some songs to the stage of The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro tonight. Starting around 7 he’ll be playing some fun tunes for you to bust a move or two to this Friday evening.

HALLOWELL

Local blues and R&B act The Colwell Brothers will be playing a show up at The Kennebec Wharf in Hallowell tonight. Join the band as things get swinging right around 9pm.

Auburn-based, original four-piece rock-reggae act A Mighty Lion will be laying down the funky jams at the Easy Street Lounge tonight. Swing through as things start up at 9 o’clock during this free and fun show.

LEWISTON

Local cover band The Depths will be bringing the party to Pedro O’Hara’s again this Friday evening. The band will be playing all kinds of songs that you know and love starting up at 8pm.

Guthrie’s in Lewiston will be jumping once again tonight as they welcome back The Juke Joint Devils to play some tunes tonight. Starting at 8, check out some old time, hard driving and swinging blues as the band kicks out the jams all night long during this free all ages show.

Getting your Friday on up in the L/A area tonight? Then check out a free show featuring local act Shady Lady as the band brings you a variety of pop, rock, blues and funk songs starting around 8:30 at The Cage in Lewiston.

NAPLES

Bray’s Brew Pub up in Naples has all the soulful blues you’ll need this finally Friday as they welcome back Poke Chop & The Other White Meats to the stage for a night of music, which gets underway at 9:30.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH

Local cover band Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades during a free show at The Brunswick tonight. Join in on the dance party as the music gets grooving right around 8:30.

OLD TOWN

Make your way into the freakin’ weekend with one heck of a party at The Boomhouse in Old Town with epic jam band Fules Gold brings some soulful, energetic jams to the stage starting at 10.

PORTLAND

Welcome the weekend with some stellar sounds courtesy of local artist Kafari as he plays a fun show at Bunker Brewing Company tonight. Check out the multifarious jazz and funk sounds Kafari creates on his keyboard as this event starts up at 6pm.

Singer-songwriter Doug Kolmar will be performing an acoustic set of songs at Blue this Friday evening. Stop by and enjoy some tunes as things get underway at 6.

Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street will be hosting local act The Gather Rounders for a free, all-age show this Thursday. Starting at 7, check out this string band that blends traditional and progressive bluegrass and folk into a lush mix of clean harmonies, inventive pickin’ and solid grooves.

Mayo Street Arts’ International Heritage Music Series will feature the music of Newpoli this evening. Newpoli performs music from the South of Italy laced with influences from all of the surrounding Mediterranean cultures. The act plays original songs mixed with arrangements of traditional music. You can see them tonight as the show begins at 7:30pm.

It’s probably been a solid 2+ years since local rock act Sidecar Radio brought the thunder and properly rocked and rolled on stage together. Thankfully the fellas will be reuniting for one night only to melt faces straight off the bone for a show that’s certain to deliver. Join Sidecar Radio tonight as they take to the stage of Portland House of Music and Events alongside special guests Battery Steele. The party starts at 8 o’clock and I’m pretty sure you will not want to miss it.

Lost Dog Street Band, a husband and wife duo featuring guitar and fiddle, present their distinct dark country tunes on the stage of Blue tonight. Check out the pair’s distinct sound as things begin at 8pm.

A rock and roll birthday bash is happening tonight for local music-lover and punk rocker Jordan who’ll be celebrating his hatch day in style with some hardcore, punk rock and straight up rock and roll jams from Psycho, Up Your Bucket, Livver and Big Meat Hammer at Mathew’s. The celebration begins at 8 o’clock.

Massachusetts based indie rock duo You Won’t will be performing live at One Longfellow Square this evening. Their dynamic and enthusiastically unorthodox live performances have earned them support slots with The Lumineers, The Joy Formidable, Josh Ritter, Deer Tick, Lucius, The Antlers, and more. Tonight they’re joined by Jocelyn Mackenzie of Pearl and the Beard, who will open tonight’s show with a set starting at 8.

The State Theatre welcomes R&B-inspired pop vocalist SoMo to the stage tonight. SoMo’s cover tunes led to a major-label contract and a Top Ten debut album. You can check him out alongside Quinn XCII and Academy as tonight’s all ages show gets underway at 8.

SPACE Gallery welcomes artist Julianna Barwick to the stage this evening. Barwick uses looped, wordless vocals and the occasional piano to build lush, ambient folk soundscapes. Also on this evening’s bill is avant-garde bassist, Nat Baldwin, who is known for his work in the Dirty Projectors as well as being a contributor to albums by Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear and more. Things get underway at 8:30 during this 18+ event.

Check out a free show down at Salvage BBQ tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey and his band play a bunch of barn burners for ya beginning at 8:30.

Cover band Sweep The Leg brings the party to the stage of RiRa tonight. Starting at 9 get ready to bust a move to some super fun rock, blues, ska and funk jams.

Get your noodle on this Friday evening by scooting your pooch down to Port City Music Hall on Congress Street as Dead Sessions bring their authentic but unique renditions of Grateful Dead classics to life starting right around 9 o’clock.

Empire’s monthly music event that celebrates all things roots and Americana happens once again tonight as they welcome Chris Ross & The North, Jesse Ahern & The Roots Rock Rebel Revue, and Town Meeting with special guest Amanda Bonnevie to the stage for an evening of mighty fine music during this installment of Roots in the Attic. String plucking, foot-stomping and soul-singing will get underway upstairs beginning at 9pm.

Local rock band OC and the Offbeats bring their new brand of blues and soul to a super fun and super free show at Brian Boru in the Old Port tonight. Join this energetic act for a night of awesome tunes and guaranteed dancing as things start up upstairs right at 9:30.

Wrong Side of the Tracks will be rockin’ out at Bull Feeney’s tonight. With covers from The Band, Skynyrd, Sublime, Stones, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash, Traffic, STP and more, there’s bound to be something for everyone as this free show starts up at 9:30pm.

Powerful, soul and blues singer, and daughter of Texas blues guitarist Johnny Copeland, Shemekia Copeland will be live at the Waterville Opera House tonight. Tickets are still available for this show that starts up at 8.

A fun night of surf, punk and rock and roll will be happening at Mainely Brews in Waterville tonight as they welcome Wyld Lyfe for a show that’ll get shaking at 9:30pm.

WESTBROOK

Twin Grizzly takes on Drivetrain as Torn in Two goes head-to-head and song-for-song with Broken Empire. It’s the ultimate local rock and roll showdown as these bands battle it out Clash of the Titans style at Live at 212 in Westbrook tonight. Join them for a fun RnR throw down as this free, 21+ show gets shaking right around 7:30pm.

Holly Nunan

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
