I can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that it’s Monday again. If you’re in as much denial about this as I am, here are some cool happenings to check out that’ll make it seem as if the weekend’s been extended right on through Monday night! If you’re anywhere near the Lewiston area this Monday, drop by Pedro O’Hara’s where local pop-rocker Michael Krapovicky will be hosting another installment of his weekly acoustic Open Mic event. Tonight’s free event gets underway at 6:30 and is open to all, so grab an instrument and get ready to make some music, and some new friends tonight!
Eric Bettencourt hosts another round of Mystery Monday Songwriters at Blue this evening. Bettencourt presents to you some local and touring artists who’ll take the stage to share their experience with the craft as well as some stories about the songs they’ll be performing live during the event. Tonight The King of Maine, hip-hop artist, Spose, is the guest. This dude writes more lyrics for one song than most artists do for an entire album so it should be an interesting event to check out. Tonight’s event has a suggested $10 donation and will begin at 6pm.
The Porthole welcomes local musician Pat Foley to their deck stage for some acoustic country-rock. If you’re kicking around downtown this evening be sure to stop into this free show as the music starts up at 6.
Local singer-songwriter Connor Garvey will be bringing his soulful folk-rock to the deck of the Portland Lobster Company this evening. Check out Connor and a few of his friends as they start making some beautiful noise right around 6:30.
Rap-rock pioneer and former member of Faith No More, Bad Brains, and Cement, Chuck Mosley will be performing at Geno’s tonight. Huntsville, Alabama-based instrumental surf-rock band Daikaiju is also making some noise on stage tonight alongside some local favorites such as Covered In Bees, Thee Icepicks and Kaltenbrunner. Don’t sleep on this Monday night party as things get underway right around 8 o’clock.
Brooklyn-based alternative singer-songwriter Mitski brings her profound musical storytelling to the stage of SPACE Gallery tonight. Mitski will be joined by Philly experimental electro-popster Japanese Breakfast and Bay Area bubblegum-garage-rockers Jay Som as this 18+ show starts at 8 o’clock.
Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter, co-founder, and frontman for indie rockers Delta Spirit, Matthew Logan Vasquez, will be performing at One Longfellow Square this Monday evening. Nashville singer-songwriter Derik Hultquist will open the evening with a set that begins at 8pm.
The State Theatre starts off this week by kicking out some jams with an awesome Monday night show chock full of alternative indie rock goodness courtesy of LA’s Silversun Pickups. The party starts at 8 o’clock with local rock and roll trio Weakened Friends getting things going, so don’t be late!
Get after it tonight with another Funky Monday featuring Gina and the Red Eye Flight Crew at Portland House of Music and Events. The band, which is basically most of the members of Model Airplane, back up this talented songstress for some funk, soul and R&B jams that are guaranteed to please as the good times get rollin’ right around 9.
Experimental pop band Unknown Mortal Orchestra will be at Port City Music Hall tonight. Switzerland duo Klaus Johann Grobe will start this 18+ show off with their take on classic Krautrock and EDM as things start up at 9pm.
Monday of the Minds returns to Flask Lounge tonight. Hosted by Stay On Mars and Smokeye, tonight you can check out sets from Ben Shorr, Drent, Rigatone, Homie Juan Kenobi, James Grant, and Wheelock. There’ll also be a cypher for any emcees who want to get up and freestyle so be sure to stop through and check out this free show as things get started up at 9.
