BRUNSWICK

Check out some tunes by Brazilian choro ensemble, Choro Louco, as they play a show at Frontier as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge Music Series. Choro Louco features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam. This evening’s free performance begins at 7:30pm.

BUCKSPORT

The Rivertown Band brings some of the best traditional acoustic tunes to the stage of the Alamo Theatre in Bucksport tonight alongside The Oshima Brothers, a duo consisting of brothers Sean and Jamie, which showcases the pair’s powerful vocal harmony, joyous interaction, and skilled musicianship. This evening’s performance gets underway at 5:30pm.

LEWISTON

Check out local musician Ron Bergeron as he plays a free and all-ages show at Pedro O’Hara’s this evening. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7 with tons great cover songs by The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many more.

PORTLAND

The Porthole hosts local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett once again this evening as he performs a set of his own original acoustic pop and funk songs as well as some fun covers. Things get started at 6 o’clock out on the deck so stop through and check it out if you’re in the area this evening.

The Soggy Po’ Boys will be performing in Congress Square Park this evening during a Summer Swing Dance open to one and all. The Soggy Po’ Boys serve their jazz messy, mixing brass-fueled mayhem with spirituals, Meters-style old-school funk, and the Caribbean side of the New Orleans tradition. This free and all-ages shindig gets swinging at 6pm.

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen the talented Eric Bettencourt singing his ass off and picking some guitar strings like it ain’t nobody’s business. Tonight this Maine native returns from Texas to play some fun tunes out on the Portland Lobster Company deck. Don’t miss your chance to see Betts in full force during a free and all-ages performance that’ll start up right around 6:30.

The Kevin Midgley Players are back at Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. These local musicians will be performing some Americana and Delta blues tunes as this free show starts up at 7 o’clock.

Erica Brown Shipman, Matt Shipman, Hanz Araki, and Colleen Raney come together as Josephine County to perform as part of Blue‘s Irish Concert Series. Josephine County combines the talents of these four powerful traditional musicians into one exceptional musical experience ranging from the United States to Ireland and back. Things get underway right around 7:30pm.

Chicago-based, self-identified ‘post-country’ duo Ratboys come to Portland tonight as they bring their fusion of punk, pop and Americana to the stage of SPACE Gallery. Local shoegaze act, Crystal Canyon, which features members of The Baltic Sea and Tiger Bomb, and Portland power-pop infused punk outfit, The English Muffins round out tonight’s bill. Music starts at 8 o’clock.

British alt-rock ensemble, Scars on 45, bring their country-rock-inflected melodic pop to One Longfellow Square this evening. Portland based indie pop outfit, Builder of the House will kick-off tonight’s musical revelry as things get underway at 8pm.

Local folk musician Dave Rowe will be playing another free show over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Join Rowe for some good times and good tunes as things start up right around 8 o’clock.

If you’re looking for some midweek punk rock then be sure to check out tonight’s show at Flask Lounge featuring the cool tunes of Port City Saints, Gant, Nuclear Bootz and Not30. This free shindig is guaranteed to be a party as things start up at 8pm.

Check out some good tunes and good vibes going down at Portland House of Music and Events tonight as The Maine Dead Project returns to the stage as part of their summer residency. These talented locals will be taking on the tunes of the Grateful Dead as this groovy gathering gets underway right around 9 o’clock.

Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to the stage of RiRa tonight for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fellas for some musical revelry as this free show starts up around 9pm.

More midweek fun will be happening at Crooners & Cocktails tonight as Hello Clarice brings some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.

SOUTH PORTLAND

Adult-contemporary folk rocker Don Campbell and his band will be performing at Mill Creek Park in South Portland this evening. A full evening of tunes will start up at 6:30pm during this free and family-friendly event.

WESTBROOK

The Frog and Turtle welcomes back local musician Tom Douglas for an evening of acoustic classic covers and original songs. Join Tom as this free and all-ages show starts up at 7:30pm.

 

 

Holly Nunan

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
