The Clash returns to Empire tonight as Ween takes on Cake

Rabbit, rabbit! It’s the first Hump Day of March, you guys! It almost feels as if we’re flyin’ right on into the freakin’ weekend and I am absofrickinlutely fine with that! Let’s get this party started by checking out what’s up for this Wednesday including shows such as Mike Doughty with Wheatus at Port City Music Hall, The Maine Songwriters’ Association’s Songwriters on Stage event at Frontier, The Maine Dead Project at Portland House of Music, Steamboat Gypsy at Gather, and more!


Take in some roots rock tunes during a free show at Champions tonight. Starting at 9 local musician Travis James Humphrey will be playing a solo set of songs.


The Maine Songwriters’ Association presents another installment of their monthly series, Songwriters on Stage, tonight at Frontier in Brunswick. The event showcases some of the brightest songwriters in the state coming together to share their original compositions and stories. This month’s event features performances by John Hasnip, Sally Ann Morgan, Giff Jamison, and emerging artists Stage Right. It’s an opportunity for listeners to discover new music as well as hear local favorites in a unique and intimate setting. Tonight’s concert gets started at 7.


Folk-rock duo Rippleton Cross will be back at Cole Farms this Wednesday to host another free open mic event. The pair will be performing some songs as well as encouraging other musicians to get up on the mic and have some fun. This all-ages gathering will get underway at 7pm.


Take in some acoustic roots tunes with David Beam & Friends at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland this Wednesday. This lively, local bunch will be playing some music for your midweek wind-down starting at 7pm.

Blue welcomes Irish fiddler Oisín Mac Diarmada and pianist Samantha Harvey to the stage as part of their weekly Irish Concert Series. This ticketed event starts at 7:30 so be sure to scoop up your ticket and check things out.

Mike Doughty, singer/songwriter, guitarist, poet, author, playwright, and founder of alt-rock band, Soul Coughing, returns to Portland tonight for a show over at Port City Music Hall. Alt-rock act Wheatus will kick things off tonight as this 18+ show starts at 8pm.

Local folk musician Dave Rowe will be playing another free show over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Join Rowe for some good times and good tunes as things start up right around 8 o’clock.

Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to the stage of RiRa tonight for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fellas for some musical revelry as this free show starts up around 9pm.

Mellow your mind with some midweek tuneage over at Portland House of Music as The Maine Dead Project continues their Wednesday night residency. These talented musicians will be performing songs from the Grateful Dead and other beloved jam bands as things get underway at 9pm.

The Clash of the Titans returns to the Empire tonight as the season kickoff battle pits Ween against Cake for a battle of post-modern alt-rockers. Tonight’s performance will feature members from such local acts as  Midwestern Medicine, SeepeopleS, The Fogcutters, Weakened Friends, Tall Horse, 6gig,Cape Cannons and more. Tonight’s rock and roll rumble gets underway right around 9.

Crooners & Cocktails welcomes back local duo Hello Clarice as these pair of talented fellas bring some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.


Take in some modern country covers and originals tonight as Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza welcomes back Joan Kennedy to the stage for a free show that’ll get swinging right around 7.


Bowdoinham-based Americana act Steamboat Gypsy will be playing a free dinnertime set at Gather in Yarmouth this Wednesday evening. This all-ages performance is slated to begin at 6:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.
