All right, here we are at the half-way point to the freakin’ weekend. Per usual there’s a ton of things to keep you happy and hurdlin’ tonight,so bust out your mid-week Party Pants and get things going at such shows as Songwriters on Stage at Frontier, Four Year Strong with Seaway, Like Pacific, Grayscale & Life Lessons at Port City Music Hall, Downeast Soul Coalition at Portland Lobster Company, Eilen Jewell at One Longfellow Square, Maine Dead Project at Portland House of Music and Events, a free show with Danielle Bradbery at Frank Galos Chevrolet & Cadillac, Dave Rowe at Bull Feeney’s, and more.
Roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns to Champions tonight for another free, solo set that’ll start up right around 9:30 this evening.
The Maine Songwriters’ Association presents the season premiere of their monthly series, Songwriters on Stage, at Frontier in Brunswick. The event showcases some of the brightest songwriters in the state coming together to share their original compositions and stories. This month’s event features three seasoned performers alongside an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It’s an opportunity for listeners to discover new music as well as hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. Tonight’s concert gets underway at 7 and features Ben Hunsberger, Mehuman Jonson, Robby Simpson, and Laurie Jones.
A night of heavy-hitting pop-punk takes over Port City Music Hall tonight as Four Year Strong brings their Rise Or Die Trying 10th Anniversary Tour to Portland. Joining FYS will be Seaway, Like Pacific, Grayscale and Life Lessons as this all ages show starts up at 6:30pm.
Portland Lobster Company hosts the Downeast Soul Coalition once again tonight for a Wednesday chock full of solid soul music that will get kickin’ right around 6:30pm. This event is free and all-ages and guaranteed to be a whole lot of fun.
If you’re looking for some acoustic roots tunes to wind down to this Wednesday, make your way over to Andy’s Old Port Pub in the Old Port as David Beam & Friends serve up some fun and free tunes starting right around 8 o’clock.
Blue’s Irish Concert Series continues with a featured performance by Nick Apollonio and Skip Gorman. Music starts at 7:30 and will be followed by another Wednesday evening Irish Session open to any and all musicians looking to get up on stage and jam.
Over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port you can check out another fun evening of folk tunes with local musician Dave Rowe. Rowe’s free show starts up at 8 so make some plans to swing through and check him out if you’re in the downtown area this evening.
One Longfellow Square gears up for an evening full of insightful songs and rootsy, folk, blues and rock n’ roll tunes from Eilen Jewell. Things get underway right around 8 o’clock tonight.
Legendary blue-eyed soul singers, Boz Scaggs brings his smooth soft rock to the stage of the State Theatre tonight. This all ages show starts up at 8 o’clock.
Mellow your mind with some midweek music over at Portland House of Music and Events as The Maine Dead Project returns to the stage as part of their summer residency tonight. These talented musicians will be performing songs from the Grateful Dead and other beloved jam bands as things get underway at 9pm.
Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to the stage of RiRa tonight for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fellas for some musical revelry as this free show starts up around 9pm.
More midweek fun will be happening at Crooners & Cocktails tonight as Hello Clarice brings some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice. The pair will be playing everything from Sinatra to Ocean — Billy Ocean that is. Things get underway during this free show right around 9:30pm.
99.9 The Wolf and Frank Galos Chevrolet & Cadillac present a free show with country artist Danielle Bradbery. You may remember Danielle, as she won Season 4 of The Voice, on Team Blake and had a top 20 hit out of the gate with “Heart Of Dixie.” She has a new song out called “Sway” and a new album on the way. See her for free beginning at 6pm with food courtesy of Jimmy The Greek’s.
Bess Berg and Company bring some midweek, musical merriment to The Frog and Turtle this evening. Starting at 7:30 make some plans to stop in and enjoy an evening of jazz piano paired with bass, sax, and drums during this free all-ages event.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
