Party on this Cinco de Mayo with local alt-rock act Zealous Bellus as they play a free show at the Fire House Grille. The good times get rollin’ along right around 8 o’clock.


Adult contemporary musician, Marc Cohn, best known for his 1991 Best New Artist Grammy award-winning song “Walking in Memphis” will be performing live at the Gracie Theatre in Bangor. Tonight’s show begins at 7:30.


Singer-songwriter Peter Alexander will be bringing his variety of musical styles from country, blues to rock, and even a little classical, to the stage of The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro tonight. Peter is known for his unique songwriting, soulful voice and unparalleled 12-string guitar playing. If you’re in the area this evening, check out this free show, which gets underway right around 6pm.


Local acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is hosting another Open Mic at the Local Buzz tonight. Starting at 7 musicians are welcome to play some tunes, or if you can’t play an instrument yourself you can sing with the fellas in Uke n’ Smile as they play the music for you. It’s free, fun, and yummy drinks and food are available as well, so if you’re in the area tonight, be sure to stop by and check things out.


Local and lovely siren Sa Rah brings her evening of serenades back to the Easy Street Lounge this Thursday. Get cozy, grab yourself a delicious cocktail, and enjoy some fine tunes as things get started up at 9:30.


Party up at Pedro O’Hara’s tonight with local act Eds Meds! The band will be injecting your Cinco de Mayo with some rock, funk, ’80s, ‘90s and modern covers as this free show starts up at 7 o’clock over at Pedro O’Hara’s.


Spend your Cinco de Mayo Happy Hour with Hassan as he continues to bring some jazz and funk tunes to Portland House of Music tonight. Starting at 5 swing through and enjoy some stellar tunes and drink specials at this musical showcase that features this gifted local keyboardist, and it’s completely free, so be sure to check it out.

Professional Klezmer band, The Casco Bay Tummlers will be back at Blue for some Traditional Eastern European Jewish tunes. Music gets underway right around 7 tonight.

Portland piano man Mike Maurice will be tickling the ivories at Salvage BBQ for a free set of funk, soul and jazz sounds that gets started up at 7 o’clock.

Andy’s Old Port Pub presents a night roots tunes with local musician Mike Preston this Thursday evening. Join in on the musical merriment as this free all ages show starts up at 7.

First known as one half of the brother-sister duo the Fiery Furnaces, Eleanor Friedberger headed out on her own in summer 2010, recording her solo debut ‘Last Summer’. Tonight she’s bring her introspective pop songs to the stage of One Longfellow Square. Rounding out this State Theatre presented bill will be New York’s icewater and Portland’s own Jeff Beam. Music begins at 8 o’clock.

Dustin Lavasseur returns to Portland for a show tonight at the Dogfish Bar & Grille. This Brooklyn transplant will be joined by local music makers Tyler Stanley, Daniel MacLeod and Ed Dickhaut for an evening of tunes. Join these fellas for some serious fun as this free show starts up at 8.

If you’re looking for some sultry salsa tunes with a bit of punk-tinged sound then make your way over to Sonny’s tonight for a lounge show featuring local salsacore act El Malo as they bring the fun to Cinco de Mayo beginning at 8:30.

Another party happening will be taking place at Portland House of Music tonight as Boston reggae rock funkateers Spiritual Rez will be teaming up with local rock-reggae act A Mighty Lion to get the Thursday night party started right around 9 o’clock.

Blue welcomes back alternative folk band Northwood for a night of foot-stomping music that will begin at 9pm.

Portland pop-rockers Kilcollins are back on stage at RiRa tonight as they get the party started at 9 o’clock with a mix of original material and cover tunes. Tonight’s show is absolutely free so swing through if you’re Thursdaying in the Old Port!

Hybrid tribute/fusion act Pink Talking Fish takes the music from three of the world’s most beloved bands, Pink Floyd, The Talking Heads, and Phish, and creates a special treat for fans of those particular acts. Check out the party at Port City Music Hall tonight as this 18+ show starts up at 9.

Jam out this Thirsty Thursday with A Band Beyond Description at Gritty’s in the Old Port tonight. Get your free Grateful Dead freak out on starting at 9 o’clock.


Check out an evening of original Maine made music tonight at the Fog Bar & Cafe in Rockland as they welcome some indie electro-folk from Earth Person and ambient electro-beats from Quantum beginning at 7:30.

The Run of the Mill in Saco gets funky tonight with some urban Chicago blues courtesy of Mike James’ Blue Lions. This free shindig starts up right around 8pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
