Thompson’s Point welcomes Michael Franti & Spearhead tonight

It’s time to take this thing to limit as we take on another Tuesday! Once again, there are a bunch of happening shows to check out so get out there and make some noise and have some fun this evening at such shindigs as Keelan Donovan at St. Lawrence Arts Center, Alex Roy at Champions, Hambone at Rock on the River in Hallowell, Kate Schrock & Glen DaCosta at Blue, Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies on the roof at Bayside Bowl, and much more.


Local pop-rock artist Alex Roy will be performing a set of original tunes and cover songs at Champions. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be a good time so swing through if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 9.


Check out some funkadelic sounds courtesy of Hambone as the band joins the Rock on the River music series tonight out at the Hallowell Bandstand. Lots of rock and funk jams will be happening starting at 7 o’clock during this free and family-friendly event.


Local singer-songwriter Kate Schrock will be at Blue this evening with special guest and saxophonist Glen DaCosta. Schrock has shared the stage with artists such as Taj Mahal, Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, Wayne Kramer of MC5, The Bodeans, Stephen Stills, and more. Check out Schrock alongside original saxophonist for Bob Marley and the Wailers, Glen DaCosta, as things get underway at 7 tonight.

The Porthole on Commercial Street welcomes back Dan Merrill to the deck this evening for a set that’ll feature a variety of acoustic rock, pop and folk covers and originals. Tonight’s show is free and starts up at 6 o’clock.

Portland’s own twisted rockabilly band, Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies will be rockin’ the roof of Bayside Bowl this evening. Join these fellas for some high-energy fun as this free and all-ages shindig gets fired up at 6pm this evening.

Local roots-rockers the Jason Spooner Band will be providing the soundtrack to your Tuesday evening as they play a free and family-friendly set out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company. Join these fun fellas for some fine Americana sounds as things get underway at 6:30pm.

Tonight One Longfellow Square and New England Celtic Arts present Dublin-based band The Jeremiahs. With a repertoire consisting of old and new folk songs from Ireland, Scotland and England, The Jeremiahs combine original and traditional material to create a performance that’s not to be missed. See them live at OLS as things get underway at 7pm.

Local folk-rock musician Brian Patricks returns to Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. Patricks intertwines finger-style, rhythmic guitar with a hint of harmonica into his sets of originals and covers that span the folk, blues, roots and rock genres. Check out this free all ages show as things begin at 7 o’clock.

Michael Franti & Spearhead return to Portland tonight for an evening of high-energy, funky reggae rock out at Thompson’s Point. The band’s Love Out Loud Tour will be bringing some good vibes to your Tuesday night as things get underway at 7pm with an opening set by St. Paul & The Broken Bones at Thompson’s Point 7pm

St. Lawrence Arts Center welcomes Nashville-by-way-of-Portland artist Keelan Donovan to the stage tonight as Donovan celebrates the release of a new self-titled EP. Donovan’s Americana and alt-folk sound has been described as ‘Wilco meets The Avett Brothers’. You can see him while he’s back in town tonight as things begin right around 7pm.

Big World, a Portland band which focuses on taking compositions from jazz and other musical genres to explore the musical form through improvisation, will be playing a show this evening at Blue. Beginning at 8 the act will be performing both original compositions as well as their interpretations of songs by such artists as Sonny Sharrock, James Brown, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and more.

Another Open DJ Night is happening at Flask Lounge. Beginning at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open decks. All you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones. This event is absolutely free so go on and check it out.

Check out a free show at Gritty’s tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a set starting up at 9.


Maine-based adult-contemporary folk rock musician Don Campbell will be back at Easy Day this evening for another free and all ages show that begin right around 6 o’clock.

Local acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is back at Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland for another free, all-ages open mic event. All genres of music, musicians of varying skills, capabilities, and ages are welcome to join in on the fun as the music starts at 8pm.


Holly Nunan

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
