So Monday was actually surprisingly less painful than I had anticipated – I hope the same was true for all you cats as well. It also looks as though Tuesday is shaping up to be pretty decent too. I know it’s still fairly early in the week, but there’s always a party going on somewhere around, so get it together and check it out! Tons of tunes to take in tonight including the Hardy Brothers Indian Ensemble at Blue, Ronda Dale at Andy’s Old Port Pub, Open Mic with Jacob McCurdy at Bull Feeney’s, Jason Mancine at The Rack and more.
Take in an acoustic set from local singer-songwriter Jason Mancine as he plays a free show up at The Rack starting at 7 o’clock tonight.
Blue welcomes back the Hardy Brothers Indian Ensemble this evening. The act draws from Carnatic Music (South India’s classical music tradition) and jazz and features an assortment of Western instruments including alto saxophone, guitar, and keyboards, but its harmony and melody is based on the Carnatic raga and tala system. The musicians blend Western timbres, Eastern melody, and rhythm to create evocative compositions steeped in tradition with a contemporary twist. You can check them out live as things get underway at 6:30pm.
Check out a free show from local singer-songwriter Ronda Dale at Andy’s Old Port Pub in the Old Port. Beginning at 7pm, Ronda will be filling to space with some delightful sounds during this all-ages acoustic performance.
Don’t miss another evening of great music from Portland’s only Brazilian choro ensemble, Choro Louco as they play a free show at Blue on Congress Street in Portland tonight. Choro Louco, which features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam, get things starting at 8:30.
Portland House of Music and Events’ musical series, Under The Influence rolls on this Tuesday evening with some great tunes from two Maine based bands. The series, which showcases local bands’ original compositions as well as covers from acts that have helped influence the bands’ sound, is both very fun and super insightful. Tonight local act Cool Tara brings their energetic brand of garage rock to the stage alongside two piece punk act Buddusky. Things get started up at 9 and will showcase not only original jams from each band, but also renditions of songs by Paul McCartney, Why?, Green Day, Spoon, Bill Callahan and more so be sure to stop through and check it out.
Flask Lounge on Spring Street in downtown Portland presents another open mic that’s designed with DJs and producers in mind. The event allows up-and-coming producers and record spinners to take a chance up on the decks alongside veteran DJ Kid Ray. All you need to bring to are some records, CDs and controller in order to join in on the fun. All genres of music are welcome as things get underway during tonight’s free shindig right around 9pm.
Check out some roots rock tunes for free tonight over at Gritty’s in the Old Port where local musician Travis James Humphrey will be playing a solo set of tunes. Humphrey will be doing his thing starting right around 9.
Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port presents another acoustic Open Mic with one of the members of local folk-pop act, The Dapper Gents, Jacob McCurdy. Jacob will be playing and emceeing at this free and fun Tuesday night party. Tonight he invites everyone on to the stage to show off their musical talents starting at 9:30.
Check out another acoustic Open Mic hosted by The Run of the Mill in Saco this Tuesday evening. Beginning at 8 o’clock all musicians are welcome to join in on the fun during this free all-ages event.
