The Tallest Man on Earth & Lady Lamb perform at the State Theatre tonight


Back to reality, kiddos. The weekend was long and wonderful, and even though I’m not really ready to get back to work without any crazy, pyrotechnic-based holidays to celebrate, I’m ready to get back into our regularly scheduled summertime rocking and/or rolling. Here’s how to get the most out of your Tuesday action at show such as Michael Krapovicky at The Porthole, Clara Junken at Blue, Rhythm & Tues with the Class Reunion at Empire, Lula Wiles at One Longfellow Square and more.


Everybody’s favorite soul singing dude Lyle Divinsky is ready once again to lay down some smooth soul, cool funk and rapturous R&B during another free show out on the patio of Portland House of Music and Events tonight. Lyle will be serenading you from 4 to 7, so stop through and check him out.

The Porthole welcomes Michael Krapovicky for an evening of acoustic pop-rock originals and covers out on the deck. Michael will get the good times and tunes rollin’ along at 6 during this free event.

Portland Lobster Company welcomes back local act Downeast Soul Coalition to the deck for a Tuesday night party chock full of some solid funk and soul sounds. This free, all ages shindig will get shaking right around 6:30.

Salt Lake City based multi-instrumentalist Talia Keys brings her tour to Portland tonight. Check out a free show featuring her funk, soul, reggae and rock sounds over at Andy’s Old Port Pub as things start up right around 7.

Fat Knuckle Freddy is back at Blue this Tuesday evening. Freddy is a local composer, instrumentalist and a songwriter who plays and writes American Primitive Music on cigar box, resonator, Weissenborn, acoustic, and fretless guitars. Check out this fun night of of music as things get started up right around 7 o’clock.

Lula Wiles bring their folk, roots and Americana songs to life on stage at One Longfellow Square this evening. This talented trio will be making noise starting up at 7 o’clock.

Check out The Thirsty Pig’s monthly Open Mic event, The Exchange. The Exchange is a gathering that’s open to any and all artists looking to collaborate, showcase, and workshop their own original material in front of an audience of peers and music-lovers alike. All ages, genres and musical abilities are encouraged to join in on the fun as hosts Jim Betts and Joel Thetford get things swinging at 7:30.

The Tallest Man On Earth, which is the stage name for soulful, gravely-voiced, Swedish indie folk singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson, will be performing at the State Theatre this Tuesday. Maine’s own beloved and bewitching indie folk-pop artist Lady Lamb will open this all ages show as the music starts up at 8 o’clock.

90’s cover band Ice Cold Zima will be rockin’ their regular Tuesday night gig at Portland House of Music and Events. Time travel with some cover tunes of No Doubt, Fiona Apple, The Cardigans, 4 Non Blondes, Green Day, Lauryn Hill, Bonnie Raitt, Stone Temple Pilots, Alanis Morissette, and more as things get jumpin’ right around 9.

Flask Lounge hosts another Open Mic for DJs with a free dance party that encourages up and coming record spinners and producers to take a chance and get up on the tables during this fun event. All you need to bring are your records, CDs and controller. All formats of music are welcome. Tonight’s DJ open mic begins at 9pm.

Local artist Clara Junken will be holding it down once again at Blue tonight. Starting at 9 Clara will be playing both her own material as well as few cover tunes during this fun musical gathering, so grab some friends, enjoy a delicious cocktail and let Junken serenade you into the evening hours.

Rhythm & Tues, the Empire’s new summer music series, rolls on tonight with local act The Class Reunion. The band features a ton of talented local players performing a bunch of fun throwback funk, blues, and R&B covers. The party starts at 9 o’clock.

Bull Feeney’s acoustic Open Mic night with local folk-pop artist, Jacob McCurdycontinues this Tuesday. Join in on the fun as Jacob invites any and all musicians to the stage to starting at 9:30.

Holly Nunan

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
